Sebastian Flores, a beloved Bronx native and dedicated community leader, was unexpectedly detained by Border Patrol on October 13 while traveling from New York to El Paso for work.
Since then, he has been held in ICE custody, prompting an urgent response from his family and community.
Sebastian’s cousins, Chris Flores, Harold Flores, and Cecilia Flores-Hernandez, have been by his side since he first arrived in the United States at just five years old.
“We grew up together in the Bronx as one big family that has always supported one another through everything life brings,” they shared.
At 27, Sebastian remains full of energy, curiosity, and kindness.
He works as a District Manager for 787 Coffee, where his leadership and dedication are widely recognized.
Beyond his professional success, Sebastian has become a pillar in New York City’s running community.
He mentors, organizes, and inspires hundreds of runners through multiple clubs, including the Bronx Nomads and the Oval Park Track Club.
He has also completed the New York City Marathon and has coached dozens of runners free of charge, while organizing events like the Men’s Mental Health Run/Walk to promote wellness and community.
His family emphasized,
“Sebastian has always been the first to help others — whether checking on friends during hard times, supporting families in need, or cheering on runners at the NYC Marathon. Now he’s the one who needs us to show up for him.”
GoFundMe
To support his release, the family has launched a fundraising campaign with a goal of $25,000 to cover legal fees, travel expenses, potential bond costs, and lodging during the legal process.
Contributions will help secure legal representation, deliver critical documentation, and ensure Sebastian receives the support he needs to return home safely.
The campaign has already received an overwhelming response. As of the latest update, the family has raised nearly $29,000, surpassing their original goal.
They are preparing to travel to El Paso to manage paperwork and ensure Sebastian has the best possible legal support ahead of his upcoming hearing.
“This experience has been emotional and overwhelming,” the family said, “but seeing how many people care about Sebastian gives us strength and hope. Every message, share, and contribution reminds us that we’re not in this alone.”
His family and friends remain committed to securing his safe return and continuing the legacy of kindness, mentorship, and leadership that he has built over his life.
