Dikembe Mutombo is a retired Congolese-American basketball player widely regarded as one of the greatest defensive players in the history of the NBA.

Mutombo played college basketball for the Georgetown Hoyas at Georgetown University before entering the NBA.

The Denver Nuggets selected him in the first round as the fourth overall pick of the 1991 NBA Draft.

Over his 18-year NBA career, he played for the Nuggets, Hawks, Sixers, Nets, Knicks, and Rockets.

Outside the court, the four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year is involved in various humanitarian and philanthropic activities.

In 2021, Ryan graduated from the Lovett School in Atlanta, GA, where he was a member of the Honors Singers Choir.

Taking after his father’s legacy, he committed to Georgetown University in 2021 to join their basketball team.

As of November 2023, Mutombo has participated in 39 games over two seasons for Georgetown and is presently in his junior year.

Beyond basketball, he is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government at the university.

Mutombo and Rose first crossed paths in Kinshasa in 1995, and their connection blossomed into a marriage the following year in 1996.

They have made their home in Atlanta and are the proud parents of three children.

In addition to their biological children, Mutombo and Rose extended their loving family by adopting four children who were related to Rose’s two late brothers.

Rose is a lawyer and politician, as well as a humanitarian, with roots tracing back to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Humanitarian Work

To enhance the quality of life in the Democratic Republic of Congo, he founded the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation back in 1997.

This foundation is a multi-million dollar charitable organization with a mission to elevate healthcare and educational standards.

As a result of his dedicated efforts, Dikembe Mutombo was honored with the NBA’s J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award in both 2001 and 2009.

In a heartfelt tribute to his late mother, he inaugurated the Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital in the Congo in 2007.

In April 2020, Dikembe Mutombo became the Chief Global Officer at Ask The Doctor, contributing his expertise to the team.

A year later, he embarked on a new venture by establishing his namesake coffee company.

The company concentrated on promoting the participation of women growers in international commerce, with a particular focus on the Congo.
