The parents of Samoa used to run the largest Polynesian dance troop in the United States, called Tiare Productions. Samoa said in an interview that he himself participated in most of the troops’ performances at the age of 5. “I danced, I played the drums, I sang… I toured the world three times with my family—China, Japan, Europe, the US, everywhere,” Samoa said.

At the 1984 Summer Olympic games, Tiare Productions even managed to run.
