Nikola Topić, likely an only child, followed in his father’s footsteps, growing up in a basketball-oriented family where his father, Milenko Topić, was a professional player and coach.

Nikola Topic is a 20-year-old Serbian basketball player who was drafted by the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2024 but missed his first season due to a knee injury.

Just recently, doctors found signs of testicular cancer during a routine procedure, and it was confirmed through a biopsy.

He has started chemotherapy and is being treated in Houston and Oklahoma.

The Thunder team has said his health is their top priority and they fully support him.

There’s no set date for his return to basketball, but doctors are optimistic about his recovery.

Nikola Topić Comes From a Basketball-Oriented Family!

Nikola Topić‘s father, Milenko Topić, is a former professional basketball player and coach who represented Yugoslavia and Serbia in international competitions.

Milenko played professionally in Serbia and was known for his contributions to the national team.

Known for his lengthy professional basketball career from 1988 to 2008, he played for various clubs, including Sloga, Profikolor, BFC Beočin, Crvena Zvezda, Budućnost, Montepaschi Siena, and Hemofarm.

After his playing career, he moved into coaching and assistant‐coaching roles (including with Crvena Zvezda) and has been involved in Serbian basketball beyond being a player.

Additionally, he earned recognition in European and Olympic tournaments.

However, his mother’s name has not been publicly disclosed. Likewise, there is no report mentioning that Nikola has a sister or any siblings.

As per the available information, it appears that Nikola may indeed be an only child.

Nonetheless, his family has played a significant role in his basketball development and support, with his father’s experience in professional sports.

Additionally, as for their relationship, Milenko clearly played a major role in the youth development.

They two became the first father‑and‑son in the ABA League to each win the title as players (Milenko in 2004‑05, Nikola in 2023‑24).

In Case You Didn’t Know

  • Nikola Topić did not attend college in the U.S.; instead, he played professional basketball in Europe before entering the NBA.
  • He began his career with Crvena zvezda and had loan stints with Slodes, OKK Beograd, and Mega Basket.
