Shai Gilgeous Alexander has a brother, Thomasi Alexander, who also has the same passion for basketball. Both the Alexandar siblings grew up in a family with a rich history of sports.

Proving his potential, Shai entered the 2018 NBA Draft and was chosen by the Charlotte Hornets as the 11th pick. However, he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers on draft night.

Shai Gilgeous Alexander is a Canadian basketball player, born on July 12, 1998, in Toronto, Ontario. 

He started his journey playing college basketball for the University of Kentucky. After a year, the Charlotte Hornets selected him in the 2018 NBA Draft as the 11th overall pick; however, he was soon traded to the Los Angeles Clippers.

He earned a spot in the NBA All-Rookie Second Team during his rookie year. Showcasing his talent during the 2019-2020 season, he became an essential player for the Oklahoma City Thunder. 

Since then, Shai-Gilgeous Alexander, a player on the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA, has been showcasing his skills as both a point guard and shooting guard.

Who Is Thomasi Alexander?

Shai Gilgeous Alexander and his younger brother, Thomasi Alexander, have established themselves in the basketball world. Both the siblings have their own share of fame in the court.

Thomasi Alexander, born on December 28, 2000, is a professional basketball player for the Evansville Purple and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.

Additionally, he also played at Tennessess Hamilton Christian in Chattanooga. After spending the 2018-2019 season playing for The Potter’s House in Jacksonville, he finally joined the University of Evansville Purple Aces.

Thomasi played two years of college basketball at Evansville and appeared in 11 games over two seasons. 

In December 2020, he got his break at Evansville, scoring 11 points against UT-Martin.

He continues to play as a guard for UE; however, this season, he has only played in eight matches but did not start.

Family With Athletic History

The brothers, who share the same passion for the sport, were born into a family with an athletic history.

They were born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to parents Charmaine Gilgeous and Vaughn Alexander.

Their mother, Charmine, is a track athlete who is mostly popular for competing for Antigua and Barbuda at the 1992 Summer Olympics. 

Likewise, their dad, Vaughn, worked as the coach for the brothers in their youth. The training sharpened their skills, and now they have been receiving their share of success in basketball.

Thomasi always looks up to his star brother, Shai Gilgeous, as his inspiration and learns a lot from him. 

He feels blessed and fortunate enough to have such a strong and supportive family. He also credits them for his success. 

Making an announcement of pursuing a collegiate education and athletics at the University of Evansville, playing for the former NBA player and coach Walter McCarty, he proudly thanked his family for their support.

He wrote a lengthy note on Twitter, stating; 

“First I’d like to thank God for blessing me with an amazing life and giving me the opportunity to chase my dreams second I’d like to thank my parents for always wanting the best for me and doing anything they could to make sure I had no worries in life and my brother for always setting the best example for me and for always influencing me to be better than I was yesterday.

Thomasi Alexander’s dedication and achievements have proved that he has left no stone unturned to make his family proud of himself.
