South Central Calhoun High School sophomore and football player Cadyn Ogden tragically passed away in a car accident near Rockwell City, Iowa.

Cadyn was driving a 2002 Ford F-150 truck north on Fletcher Avenue early in the morning when he approached the intersection with U.S. Highway 20.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, he didn’t stop at the stop sign and crashed into a semi-truck that was heading east on Highway 20.

The driver of the semi was hurt, though officials haven’t shared details about the injuries.

Cadyn wasn’t wearing a seatbelt at the time. There was heavy fog in the area, which may have made it harder to see.

These conditions likely played a role in the tragic accident.

The school district confirmed his passing in an official statement, which reads:

This morning the District was notified that one of our very own SCC High School students, Cadyn Ogden, a sophomore, lost his life in a fatal car accident. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the student’s family, friends and loved ones as they cope with this tremendous personal loss…

Additionally, the school has postponed homecoming events, originally scheduled for Wednesday evenings.
