South Central Calhoun High School sophomore and football player Cadyn Ogden tragically passed away in a car accident near Rockwell City, Iowa.
Cadyn was driving a 2002 Ford F-150 truck north on Fletcher Avenue early in the morning when he approached the intersection with U.S. Highway 20.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, he didn’t stop at the stop sign and crashed into a semi-truck that was heading east on Highway 20.
The driver of the semi was hurt, though officials haven’t shared details about the injuries.
Cadyn wasn’t wearing a seatbelt at the time. There was heavy fog in the area, which may have made it harder to see.
These conditions likely played a role in the tragic accident.
The school district confirmed his passing in an official statement, which reads:
This morning the District was notified that one of our very own SCC High School students, Cadyn Ogden, a sophomore, lost his life in a fatal car accident. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the student’s family, friends and loved ones as they cope with this tremendous personal loss…
Additionally, the school has postponed homecoming events, originally scheduled for Wednesday evenings.
Cadyn Agden Was a Proud Member Of The School’s Football Team!
Cadyn Ogden was a 15-year-old athlete and student at South Central Calhoun High School in Lake City, Iowa.
Wearing #60, he played for the Boys Varsity Football team as part of the Class of 2028.
Moreover, he was a proud member of the SCC Titan wrestling team. Cadyn was a rising talent known for his determination on and off the field
Though he was still early in his high school journey, he had already made a lasting impression on his teammates and coaches.
Cadyn’s passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, teammates, friends, and the entire Lake City community.
Many heartfelt tributes were posted across social media platforms.
One of Cadyn’s closest family friends, someone who treated him like her son, shared a heartfelt message, saying:
I don’t know where to begin Cadyn Ogden you were like a son to Kyle and I. Big brother lil brother to all my kiddos. You always called me Ma and called Kyle Dad!!!! We were so proud of you and the young man you are. Not one gripe out of you!!! Well mannered and polite. I’m going to miss you so much buddy!!!!! We will take care of your momma down here!!!! Until we meet again SON FLY HIGH!!!!
Likewise, SCC Youth Wrestling also shared a tribute, writing:
It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic loss of one of our own, Cadyn Ogden, a proud member of the SCC Titan wrestling family. More than just an athlete, he was a teammate, a friend, and a young man whose hard work, dedication, and spirit left an undeniable mark on our program and community…
To honour Cadyn Ogden’s memory, SCC is holding a Blue Out during the school day and at the home volleyball game vs. Alta Aurelia on September 11, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.
