After losing his beloved wife, Christine, and son, Spencer, in a crash, Doug Lane mentioned that they adopted Spencer and Milo from South Korea 17 years ago.
Spencer Lane was a promising young figure skater who tragically lost his life in the recent plane crash in Washington, D.C.
He was only 16 years old but had already significantly impacted the skating community.
Spencer started skating relatively late, only in January 2022, but quickly gained fame with his natural talent. He was seen as a future Olympian by many in the skating community.
Additionally, he was known for mastering complex moves like the triple toe loop-triple toe loop combination and the triple Lutz.
Moreover, he attended Barrington High School for a year before dedicating himself full-time to figure skating.
In 2025, he qualified for the National Development Camp in Wichita, Kansas, a prestigious training program for top juvenile figure skaters.
Spencer Lane’s Father Gave Heartfelt Tribute to His Beloved Son And Wife, Christine!
Spencer Lane was a promising figure skater who was adopted from South Korea by his parents, Doug and Christine Lane, in 2008.
Although there is no information about his biological parents, his adoptive parents provided a loving and supportive home for both of them.
Sadly, Spencer passed away in a plane crash on January 29, 2025, along with his mother, Christine.
They were on an American Airlines flight from Wichita, Kansas, to Washington, D.C.
The flight was returning from a National Development Campt held in conjunction with the U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

There were 64 passengers on the American Airlines and three soldiers on the helicopter. Unfortunately, there were no survivors.
Among the passengers, 14 people were returning from a national figure skating development camp in Wichita, Kansas.
Six of these individuals were affiliated with the Skating Club of Boston, including two coaches, two teenage athletes, and their mothers.
Spencer and Christine were among the passengers who were returning home from the training camp.
On the other hand, another young skater, Jinna Han, and her mother, Jin Han, were also among the victims of the tragic crash.
Just hours before the tragic crash, he shared a photo of the plane’s wing from his window seat on Instagram.
The caption simply read “ICT to DCA,” indicating the flight path from Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
The caption and photo were a simple reflection of his journey.
In another post, he shared his excitement about qualifying for the camp on social media and wrote:
NDC!! I am so happy to have qualified for national development camp earlier in november, it has been my goal almost ever since I became aware that it was a thing. I learned so much new information that i can apply to my everyday life, and met so many amazing people!
The Lane family is now mourning the loss of Spencer and Christine, who were both on the ill-fated flight.

Doug Lane, Spencer’s father, shared a heartfelt statement about the tragic incident.
He mentioned that Spencer had a natural talent and passion for figure skating, which he discovered after watching Nathan Chen at the Olympics.
Additionally, he spoke about his wife, Christine, calling her a beautiful and creative person with many talents.
