Stephen ‘Dooley’ Jones Is Named in Ongoing Bryce Fitzgerald Robbery Investigation, While His Girlfriend Wilia Thomas Is Arrested on Fraud and Theft Charges

The Miami sports community, Stephen “Dooley” Jones, has been named in connection with the recent armed robbery of University of Miami defensive back Bryce Fitzgerald.

While no arrests or charges have been filed against Jones at this time, his girlfriend, Wilia Thomas, was taken into custody on January 14, 2026, facing serious allegations of organized scheme to defraud and grand theft in the third degree.

The information originates from an unverified Facebook post by Rocquel McCray, which has circulated privately and raised questions about the incident’s ties to local figures.

Bryce Fitzgerald, a standout freshman for the Miami Hurricanes, has been one of the brightest stars in college football this season.

Hailing from Miami and a product of Christopher Columbus High School, after starting his high school career at Belen Jesuit, the 6-foot-1, 185-pound safety leads the team with six interceptions, tying him for second-most in the nation and the most among Power 4 defenders.

His defensive prowess, including 10 solo tackles, one sack, and two pass deflections, has been instrumental in the Hurricanes’ impressive run.

Just days before the robbery, Fitzgerald and his teammates celebrated a thrilling 31-27 comeback victory over Mississippi in the College Football Playoff semifinal, setting up a national championship showdown against the undefeated Indiana Hoosiers on January 19 in Miami Gardens.

As a multi-sport athlete who also excelled in basketball and track during high school, Fitzgerald’s journey from local talent to national sensation has made him a hometown hero.

The robbery itself unfolded in the early hours of Saturday, January 10, at an Airbnb in Florida City, where Fitzgerald was attending a party after returning to South Florida from the semifinal win.

According to reports from Florida City Police and local media outlets like NBC6 and WSVN, several suspects armed with rifles, described in some accounts as AK-47s and pistols, burst into the home and targeted Fitzgerald, stealing valuable jewelry before fleeing the scene.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, though initial reports varied slightly, with some mentioning a possible battery but ultimately confirming no physical harm.

Police have launched a full investigation, highlighting the brazen nature of the crime in an otherwise quiet residential area.

Adding a layer of intrigue, Rocquel McCray’s Facebook post, shared privately, brought Jones and Thomas into the spotlight.

Rocquel McCray’s private Facebook post brought Jones and Thomas into the spotlight

McCray wrote:

“According to unverified information shared with me privately, Stephen Jones, also known as Dooley, has been named by others in connection with an ongoing investigation involving the reported robbery of Bryce Fitzgerald, a UM football player. No arrest has been made or charges have been announced related to him at this time. The woman shown in the photo is Wilia Thomas, identified as Dooley’s girlfriend. She was arrested today and charged with organized scheme to defraud and grand theft in the third degree, with bond set at $2,500. It is alleged that she attempted to sell a gold chain connected to the case. It remains unclear whether the chain was recovered. This situation is still developing, and all individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven otherwise. If you were in Wilia’s position, would you take the charge alone or cooperate with investigators? Good job Exit 1.”

Thomas, a 19-year-old Black female born on July 21, 2006, and a recent graduate of Homestead Senior High School, was processed into custody at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGKCC) in Miami-Dade County, a facility primarily used for pretrial detainees and short-term inmates.

Her booking record includes a mugshot depicting a young woman with dark hair staring directly at the camera.

The charges, organized scheme to defraud and grand theft in the third degree, each carry a $2,500 bond, which has not yet been posted, meaning she remains in custody awaiting further proceedings or bond payment.

Authorities noted that the posted bond information may not show the current status, advising anyone seeking updates to contact the detention facility directly.

While the exact link between Thomas’s arrest and the Fitzgerald robbery remains unclear, the allegation that she tried to sell a gold chain potentially tied to the stolen items has fueled speculation.

Jones, known locally as Dooley, has not been formally accused, and sources close to the investigation stress that any connections are preliminary and unverified.

The Miami-Dade Police Department has not released additional details, citing the active nature of the probe.

This incident comes at a precarious time for the Hurricanes, who are gearing up for what could be a historic national title game on home turf.

Fitzgerald, undeterred by the ordeal, has reportedly focused on preparation, with teammates and coaches rallying around him.

Fans have expressed relief that he emerged unscathed, with social media buzzing about the dangers young athletes face amid rising fame and NIL deals, which can make them targets for theft.

As the story continues to develop, questions remain about possible motives, potential accomplices, and the full scope of the investigation.

With the championship looming, the Miami community hopes for a swift resolution and justice, while reminding everyone involved of the presumption of innocence.
