Stephen Hood, 20, of Lansford, Pennsylvania, tragically lost his life in a car crash on December 23, 2025.

The crash occurred at 10:51 a.m. on Route 209 near Panther Valley High School in Summit Hill, when his vehicle lost control on black ice and struck a utility pole.

He was rushed to St. Luke’s Miners Campus, but despite medical efforts, he later passed away.

Remembering Stephen Hood: Athlete, Student, and Dedicated Community Member!

Stephen Hood, a senior from the Class of 2024 at Panther Valley High School in Lansford, Pennsylvania, was a commanding presence in both baseball and basketball.

On the diamond, he wore #20 and played as a right‑handed pitcher, outfielder, and infielder.

While on the court, he wore #11 and contributed as a versatile small forward, power forward, and shooting guard.

At Panther Valley High School, he was a four‑year starter in both baseball and basketball.

His baseball career was impressive, with a 1.83 ERA and 237 strikeouts in 160.1 innings. He also hit .351 overall, driving in 75 RBIs with 21 doubles, 4 triples, and 8 home runs.

Likewise, his junior year stood out, with a .463 batting average, 27 RBIs, and 5 home runs.

Standing 6’4” and weighing 215 pounds, Stephen was known for his fastball velocity reaching 88 mph and a strong mix of pitches.

He earned multiple awards and scholarships, reflecting his talent and dedication.

Additionally, Stephen was a junior at Kutztown University, where he pitched for the varsity baseball team,

Beyond his athletic achievements, Stephen Hood was deeply committed to public service through firefighting.

At just 16 years old, he joined the American Hose Company in Lansford, following in the footsteps of his father, a former assistant fire chief.

Stephen completed multiple firefighting courses, demonstrating a strong sense of responsibility and community involvement.

Panther Valley Sports shared a heartfelt tribute, expressing deep sorrow and extending thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, and all who are grieving.

His passing marks a profound loss for both the university and his hometown.

Panther Valley JSHS shared a heartfelt tribute to Stephen Hood, writing:

Our hearts are heavy with the passing of one of our 2024 Graduates, Stephen Hood. Stephen, you walked the halls of PV with enthusiasm, pride and respect for teachers and classmates. May heaven be your new home as you watch over us until we see you again. Prayers go out to Ron, Jenny and Bradley at this most difficult time.

Likewise, one of his family members shared a heartfelt message, saying:

Please send all the positive energy you have to my cousin Ron Hood his wife Jenny and son Bradley Hood. No person should ever have to receive this news. Our hearts are broken. Our family is so very sad.

Stephen Hood is survived by his parents, Ron and Jenny Hood, his brother Brad, and an extended family who loved and supported him.
