Stephen John Haller, 65, and his wife Patricia Ann Adams Haller, 63, died together on July 10, 2026, in Tallahassee, Florida, according to an obituary posted by their family. The couple’s sudden passing has left family, friends, and former coworkers reeling with grief.
In a statement shared on social media and through a memorial page, the family described the loss as sudden and tragic and asked for privacy regarding the circumstances of the accident.
They said they are focused on grieving together and supporting one another during this difficult time.
A Life Built on Devotion and Family
Steve was born on September 23, 1960, and grew up on Long Island, New York.
He spent his career as an air traffic controller and was known among friends and coworkers for his love of cooking, golf, and the New York Jets, along with his ability to make friends everywhere he went.
Patti was born on October 1, 1962, in Sarasota, Florida. She built her career at Assurant and was remembered for her love of thrifting, clogging, and her natural gift for making the people around her laugh.
The two were married on November 10, 1990, in Miami and spent 35 years together.
Those who knew them said they were rarely seen apart, spending their time visiting local breweries, bowling, traveling, and enjoying seafood.
Above all, they cherished time with their granddaughter, Amelia, whom they affectionately called “Millie Goose.” Family members said the couple proudly wore “Promoted to Grandma” and “Promoted to Grandpa” shirts and delighted in spoiling her.
Coworkers and Friends Share Memories Online
Following news of their deaths, tributes poured in from friends and former colleagues.
One family friend, who said her husband worked alongside Steve as an air traffic controller for three decades while she worked with Patti at American Bankers Insurance Group, wrote that the friendship that began as a professional connection lasted more than 30 years.
She described the couple as kind, caring, and deeply missed by everyone who knew them, and called their deaths a painful reminder to hold loved ones close.
The Hallers are survived by their children, Kristen and Ryan Silverman and Kevin Haller, their granddaughter, Amelia Silverman, and their dog, Lucy, along with a wide circle of extended family and friends.
A joint celebration of their lives is being planned, though details have not yet been finalized. The family has asked that, instead of flowers, donations be made in the couple’s memory, and a memorial fund set up in their honor has already raised nearly $6,000 from contributors.
