His accidents highlight the extreme dangers of no-prep drag racing.
One of the most terrifying moments in Street Outlaws history happened in Amarillo, Texas, in 2017.
Shortly after launching, Dave’s car veered out of control and slammed into a concrete barricade. The vehicle flipped and rolled violently before coming to a stop.
He suffered a concussion, a bruised lung, and short-term amnesia. His wife, Cassie, posted on Facebook that he was in significant pain and disoriented but recovering in his own hospital room.
It stands out as one of the scariest crashes in Street Outlaws history due to the intensity of the flip. Despite the horrific crash, he made a full recovery and returned to racing.
Similarly, Dave had another close call during a No Prep Kings race against Bobby Ducote in 2021. After finishing the race, his car fishtailed when he deployed the parachute, which caused him to crash into the wall.
Although the impact was severe, he climbed out, gave a thumbs-up, and walked away unaided. He has repeatedly credited his survival to his team’s dedication to safety, especially his car’s strong roll cage.
Fans are glad to see him racing strongly, which shows his toughness and the importance of safety gear. As of 2025, no severe accidents have been reported involving him.
