Raymond Walkup Has A Legacy in Handball

Thomas’s father, Raymond Walkup, played an instrumental role in shaping his son’s athletic pursuits.

A Texas native himself, Raymond graduated from Milby High School in 1980. He then joined Texas A&M University after graduating high school.

Raymond’s own sports background is notable, having been a former Texas A&M handball team member during his collegiate years.

Thomas’ father was an avid handball player representing his college in many major tournaments in the early 1980s.

Moreover, Raymond finished third in the C division of the 1982 National Intercollegiate Handball Tournament.

Not only did the Texas A&M handball club earn the third position, but they also made headlines in newspapers.

This experience likely ignited Thomas’s interest in sports from an early age, as he witnessed his father’s passion for physical activity.

Raymond’s commitment to sports was likely a significant influence on his son’s work ethic and dedication to his own athletic endeavors.

In light of his Facebook feed, it is evident that Raymon still actively follows his basketball player son’s games.

Lisa Walkup Provided A Supportive Foundation

Behind every successful athlete, a strong support system always provides the necessary encouragement and guidance.

In Walkup’s case, his mother, Lisa Walkup, played a pivotal role in fostering a supportive environment for his athletic pursuits.

While there may not be as much information available about Lisa’s direct involvement in sports, her presence as a pillar of support cannot be underestimated.

Likewise, she is thankful for his achievements and appreciates his determination to play the game.

Given Walkup’s hardships with injuries and recovery processes, it’s exciting for Lisa to see her son close one chapter in his career and start another.

Walkup currently leads the Greek national team at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. The team is all set to compete against New Zealand in their upcoming match.
