Despite a troubled childhood and no support from parents, Torrey Craig rose above his challenges to become a successful professional basketball player.

Recently, Torrey Craig, born on December 19, 1990, has signed with the Boston Celtics.

After being waived by the Chicago Bulls earlier this month due to injuries, Craig agreed to a contract with the Celtics on February 6, 2025.

He’s expected to provide depth on the wing and contribute with his solid shooting and defensive skills. Craig will be playing for his sixth NBA team.

Although His Father Was Absent From His Life, Torrey Craig Stayed Connected With His Mother Via Letters!

Torrey Craig was born in Columbia, South Carolina, on December 19, 1990. His childhood was quite challenging.

When he was just five years old, his mother, Teresa Mays, was incarcerated on drug charges.

He used to write letters to his mom while she was in jail. He would express his dreams and aspirations, telling her he wanted to make it to the NBA and make her proud.

This left Torrey primarily raised by his grandmother, Daisy Mays, and his older sister, Sacha.

However, his father, Johnny Craig, was not part of his life due to personal and family circumstances.

Unfortunately, there is not much detailed public information about the specific reason for his absence.

Growing up in a small town called Great Falls, South Carolina, Torrey had to take on responsibilities at a young age, such as mowing the lawn, taking out the garbage, and chopping wood.

Despite these hardships, Torrey remained focused on his dream of making it to the NBA.

Craig played college basketball at USC Upstate, where he earned several accolades, including being named an honorable mention All-American and Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year in 2012.

After college, Craig played professionally in Australia and New Zealand, where he had great success.

He won the New Zealand NBL MVP and a championship with the Wellington Saints and earned NBL Best Defensive Player honors with the Brisbane Bullets.

Craig entered the NBA in 2017 when he signed with the Denver Nuggets.

Since then, he has played for several NBA teams, including the Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns, Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, and now the Boston Celtics.

In Case You Didn’t Know

  • Torrey has been romantically linked to Megan Thee Stallion, the American rapper.
  • He has a son named Braylon, born in June 2014 while he was still in college.
  • Previously, he was in a relationship with Nicole Zavala, a Colombian reality TV star.
