Tragedy in Buffalo, NY: Young Football Player Daniel Thompson III Dies After Pneumonia Battle, Leaving Loved Ones Shattered

The Buffalo, New York, community is heartbroken over the sudden death of beloved 6-year-old Daniel Thompson III, who passed away on December 20, 2025, from complications related to pneumonia.

Daniel was a joyful first grader who touched many lives with his kind heart and gentle spirit.

Amber Nicole, a teacher at Daniel’s school, shared the sad news on Facebook. She posted a link to the family’s GoFundMe page with a touching message.

She wrote-:

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I share this GoFundMe, Daniel was a sweet 6-year-old boy who attended my school. His mother, Jasmine, also works at my school and has become a dear friend to me and my family. Their family is facing the unimaginable right now. If you are able, please consider donating, sharing this page, or keeping them in your prayers as they navigate this incredibly difficult road ahead.”

Daniel was full of life and energy. He attended a local public school in Buffalo and loved playing sports. He was a proud member of the Buffalo Vets youth football team.

At home, he enjoyed basketball and soccer, often turning the living room into his own playground.

Friends and family remember him as imaginative and creative. He spent hours role-playing adventures with his older brother and cousins.

Born several months prematurely, Daniel was a true fighter from the start. He overcame huge challenges and spent a long time in the hospital as a newborn.

Finally, he went home to be surrounded by the love of his mom, dad, and big brother.

Even with ongoing respiratory issues and severe allergies, Daniel lived every day with joy, light, and love. He showed kindness to everyone he met.

His sudden passing has left the Thompson family with unexpected financial burdens during this painful time.

The GoFundMe page explains that all donations will help cover funeral and memorial expenses.

This allows Daniel’s parents to focus on grieving and saying goodbye to their little boy. The page notes.

“To my big guy, biggest little man you’ll ever know, Loving, caring, kindest kid you’ll ever know. One of the most gentlest souls that ever blessed this earth. He would always say ‘papa, who got my back?’ I would say ‘I got your back’ And he would say ‘Let’s GOOOO!!!'”
