Travis Wittlake Injury: Taking only a short break from wrestling, the wrestler has returned to the mat with a thirst to prove himself.
An injury kept Oregon wrestler Travis from competing on the mat for a while.
However, his return has excited fans and supporters of Oregon’s two-time Wrestler of the Year.
Hailing from Coos Bay, Oregon, Travis achieved All-America honors twice with the Cowboys, amassing 79 wins in Stillwater.
Prepped at Marshfield High School, Wittlake secured four state titles with an impressive 196-2 record and earned the distinction of being a four-time All-American.
He impressed in his second season, starting with a flawless 14-0 record that culminated in an overall record of 22-3, including a perfect 10-0 in duals during the 2020-21 season.
Moreover, on his path to a third-place finish at the Big 12 championship and a fourth-place finish at the NCAAs, he defeated six ranked opponents,
It concluded his second season with the accolade of being an All-American.
Travis Wittlake Injury: Did He Have An Accident?
The wrestler accidentally suffered two leg injuries, keeping him away from the wrestling ground for a while.
Wittlake reportedly sustained an ankle injury while participating in Junior National Duals in late June last season.
Furthermore, during the match, a wrestling move immediately made Travis Wittlake, OSU’s 165-pounder, feel the effects of his left knee injury.
However, he persisted in wrestling for a few more matches but suffered a reinjury in the Bucknell dual, compelling him to miss the final dual of the regular season.
It even hindered his qualification for the NCAA event for a third consecutive year.
Now, he is heading back to tournaments, believing he still needs to prove himself.
Travis recalled the injury as a different situation, emphasizing that he had never been in that state before.
He said, “That one, it was it was hard to watch. It was weird just to not have any pressure on you, just be able to watch the tournament with really no emotional attachment because you weren’t in it. So that was something that I had to get through.”
Travis Bck To Oregon Again
In September 2023, Wittlake, the two-time All-American for OSU, revealed his transfer to Oregon State with one-year remaining eligibility through an Instagram post.
Later, wrestling reporter Pat Mineo officially reported that Wittlake had entered the transfer portal, confirming the news.
The wrestler’s return to his hometown team brought immense joy to many fans in his hometown.
Furthermore, in an interview, Travis expressed his excitement about rejoining Oregon again.
He said,
” It’s been a while since I’ve been back in Oregon wrestling. I’m really excited. I’ve got a lot of people coming out to watch.”
The move to Oregon brought Wittlake back together with coach Chris Pendleton.
Chris had previously served as an assistant at Oklahoma State before assuming the head coaching role with the Beavers.
Similarly, Wittlake is now competing in a weight class two levels higher than most of his career.
Despite injuries derailing his efforts, he worked over the summer to bulk up to 184.
Additionally, he staged a comeback by wrestling with Trey Munoz, providing Wittlake with a significant test to showcase his position in his new weight class.
