Trevor’s Life-Changing Injury
Trevor hit a jump and caught an edge while backcountry snowboarding on Vail Pass.
He spun forward unintentionally while in the air. Trevor tucked forward, landing on his lower back instead of his head.
He says that before the search and rescue team could get him out of the backcountry, he was lying in the snow from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Despite being paralyzed from the waist down, Trevor continued to pursue his passion for skiing and returned to the mountain on a sit ski.
In addition, Trevor is an incredible athlete and the first sit skier to land a backflip.
With this newfound happiness, Trevor has turned his life around as a public figure determined to show the world what life as a disabled person is like and that it’s normal.
Apart from being active on social media, he’s currently associated with the High Fives non-profit adaptive sports foundation, Darn Tough Vermont, as well as many other organizations as a way to spread this message.
Trevor Kennison and Barry Corbet collaborated to create a documentary that highlights their struggles following severe spinal cord injuries that occurred 50 years apart.
I LANDED ON MY BACK, MY BOARD AND BOOTS COMPRESSED LIKE A TACO, AND I JUST HEARD A LOUD, LOUD POP… I REMEMBER LAYING THERE, THINKING ABOUT MY GIRLFRIEND, MY SISTER, TELLING MY PARENTS, TELLING MY BOSS, NOT BEING A PLUMBER ANYMORE, NOT DOING THE THINGS I LOVE ANYMORE. I LOOKED AT MY FEET, AND IT WAS JUST LIKE I KNEW RIGHT AWAY.
He credits his sister and brother-in-law for getting him to a better place physically, mentally, and emotionally following his accident, too.
Trevor has inspired millions to pursue their dreams and passion no matter what. He taught people how to look at disability in new ways that they never thought of.
