The Iceman | Early Life & Career

Postol, also known as “The Iceman,” was born on 16 January 1984. His place of birth was Velyka Dymerka, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union.

Early Boxing Career

Coming from Ukrain, Post made his boxing debut back in 2007. In his debut game, he defeated Zsolt Vicze in the second round of the match. He later won all his next fourteen bouts. 

Viktor’s first and most important fight was against the Karen Tevosyan. The two fought in December 2011, when he won the match via unanimous decision. 

He then successfully defeated Yvan Mendy and DeMarcus Corley. This win provided him a WBC Silver International light welterweight title. 

Postol later competed with Lucas Martin, an Argentine boxer, and won the bout via unanimous decision.

In 2013, it was confirmed that the boxing champ of Ukraine would fight the Argentine boxer, Lucas Matthysee. After waiting 17 long months, Viktor finally defeated his opponent. 

Likewise, “The Iceman” won by knockout in the 10th round at the StubHub Center in Los Angeles.

This win provided Ukrainian fighters with the vacant WBC world super lightweight title in the process.

Competing with the World Champion Terence Crawford

On 3 May 2016, news about Viktor Postol’s bout with the World Champion Terence Crawford circulated online. 

For a junior welterweight title, both fighters met on 23 July at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. 

Both fighters landed in the ring with a record of 28 wins with no losses. In the ring, Crawford proved to be stronger than Postol.

With a dominant performance, Crawford won the fight via unanimous decision and unified the 140-pound titles.

After the fight, Postol mentioned:

“I thought it was a good fight between two technicians, but he was quicker than me. He is one of the best fighters in the world. I just didn’t have the answers for him.” 

After winning the title, Crawford earned $1.3 million, whereas Postol bagged $675,000. Furthermore, the fight generated about 50,000 PPVs on HBO.

After losing a fight with Crawford, Postol took a long break of 14 months. He made his return to his country in Kyiv.

Upon his return, Postol competed against newcomer boxer Jamshidbek Najmiddinov. He won the fight via knockout (14-0, 9).

“After the Crawford fight, I took one month’s rest, and then I got back to the gym. I have been ready to fight within all that time, with any opponent, but the question why I was absent should be directed to my manager.”

Postol loses against Josh Taylor at Glasgow

It had been announced that Postol was going to fight Josh Taylor at SSE Hydro in Glasgow. The event took place on 23 June 2018.

Without a doubt, Postol was the toughest fight competitor for Taylor.

In a very competitive fight, Josh Taylor won by a unanimous decision. The scores were 119-108, 118-110, and 117-110. 

Postol gave a tough fight to Siar Ozgul.

Postol faced two career defeats, with Crawford and Josh Taylor. After being defeated by Taylor, he was all set to compete against Siar Ozgul.

Likewise, Postol dominated the fight from the ist round of the game.

However, in the 10th round, the Ukrainian fighter won via points decision 99-91. 

Postol won over French Boxer Mohamed Mimoune.

On 19 March 2019, it was all set that Postol was going to fight with French boxer Mohamed Mimoune in a WBC eliminator on 27 April. 

After a week and both fighters, the fight was confirmed just one step away to compete with American professional boxer Jose Ramirez.

The Ukrainian fighter gives a tough competition from the first round of the game. Eventually, he won the fight via unanimous decision in the 10th round.
