Chinese professional tennis player, Wang Xinyu grew up in Shenzhen, China with parents who have sporting backgrounds.

Xinyu’s father is a former professional tennis player and coach. Meanwhile, her mother used to play basketball in China.

Wang Xinyu parents have been very supportive from the initial days, encouraging and motivating her throughout the sporting journey.

Wang Xinyu made her professional debut in the 2018 Australian Open. She had booked the ticket to the Grand Slam on December 3, 2017, winning the Asia-Pacific Wildcard Playoff.

However, as the second-youngest contender, Wang lost her debut match to Alize Cornet in straight sets.

Later, in September 2019, the tennis pro reached her first WTA Tour-level final at the Jiangxi International Open. She had partnered with Ahu Lin in the doubles event to claim the victory.

Moreover, Xinyu won her first Grand Slam match of her career in 2022 against Ann Li at the Australian Open.

Recently, Wang partnered with Hsieh Su-wei at the French Open, reaching the final for the first time at a major.

They won the title there, Wang Xinyu’s first major championship, and their first victory as a team by defeating Leylah Fernandez and Taylor Townsend.

Wang Xinyu was born in Shenzhen, Guangdong of China to her parents: her father, Wang Peng, and his wife.

Wang’s family has a long history of athletic passion. She grew up with the parents who are sports enthusiasts.

Xinyu’s father, Wang Peng, was once the top player of the Zhejiang men’s tennis team. The native of Hangzhou, Zhejiang, Peng is a former head coach of the Shenzhen tennis team.

He was also the coach of the Chinese women’s national team. However, Wang resigned the coaching job to concentrate on his daughter’s tennis career.

Peng is currently in his daughter’s team, coaching alongside the Serbian technical coach Aleksandar Slovic.

Likewise, Wang Xinyu’s mother is also from a sporting background. Peng’s wife is a former member of the Zhejiang Provincial Women’s Basketball Team.

Despite being the former athletes and parents of the renowned tennis player, Wang Peng and his wife prefer to enjoy a low-key life.

However, Xinyu, on most occasions, posts about her mother on her Instagram handle.
She often utilizes her social media to acknowledge her parent’s sacrifices in her upbringing.

Others might assume that it would have been much easier to coach Wang Xinyu, but Wang Peng openly acknowledged that it was difficult to train Xinyu as her father.

“Actually, it’s not a question of technology but of identity and mentality. We’ve been together for a long time, and children are somewhat rebellious in adolescence.” Peng once said in an interview.

On the other hand, Wang Xinyu learns about her hometown of Hangzhou through the sporadic opportunity to visit relatives there.

According to Wang Peng, they make time each year to travel back to Hangzhou to see their family, and Wang Xinyu often accompanies them when available.

“Although she can’t speak Hangzhou dialect, she can understand it, and she loves to eat at her grandparents’ home.” Xinyu’s father spoke of his daughter’s affection for her native town.
