The couple married in 2016 and have since welcomed two sons.
Alex Ovechkin, the Russian professional ice hockey left winger and captain of the Washington Capitals of the NHL, nicknamed “the Great 8,” is married to Anastasia Shubskaya, his wife of 8 years.
The couple married in a private wedding in 2016. It is reported that they only had a court marriage that year but held a much grander celebration in Moscow in 2017.
Alex and Anastasia share two sons together: Sergei and Ilya.
The couple first met in a chance encounter at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
It is reported that they exchanged numbers and communicated for some time before it fizzled.
However, they reconnected in early 2015 after Alex started commenting on her Instagram posts. Around this time, Anastasia began her modeling career.
They soon started FaceTiming and quickly became exclusive.
After a few months of dating, Alex invited Anastasia to come to Washington and live with him.
Soon after, Alex popped the question. In an interview, Anastasia revealed how Alex had proposed.
According to the model, she was in the shower, washing her hair, when Alex busted in and got down on one knee.
She quoted,
“I was like, ‘What! Do you understand I am just …’ and he didn’t stop, so I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh’ and I got a towel, and I opened the door, and he is on one knee with the flowers and with the ring.

At first when I opened the door I thought I would kill him. Can you imagine you were in the shower and then you need to get out … Oh my God. Why you couldn’t just wait? He said: ‘No, no, no. I wanted to right now,’
Two years into their marriage, the couple welcomed its first child, Sergei Aleksandrovich Ovechkin, on August 18, 2018.
They had their second child, again a son, Sergei Aleksandrovich Ovechkin, on May 27, 2020.
Anastasia often posts pictures of her and the two boys on her Instagram.
Anastasia, born November 16, 1993, also goes by the name Nastasiya or Nastya.
She is the daughter of Russian businеssman Kirill Shubsky and rеnownеd actrеss, producеr, and film dirеctor Vеra Vitaliеvna Glagolеva.
Vera Glagoleva, born on January 31, 1956, was a Soviet and Russian actress celebrated for her roles in ‘Slomannyy Svet‘ and ‘Zhenshchin obizhat ne rekomenduetsya.’
She was also a director of films such as ‘One War‘ and ‘Zakaz.’
She passed away in 2017 due to cancer.

Anastasia Shubskaya became a model at 21 years old. However, following her new life as a dedicated mother, she has limited her modeling work.
As of November 2024, she has over 500K followers on Instagram, where she posts modeling photos and glimpses into her personal life, including her life as a mother of two little boys.
In an interview with the Washington Post, Alex said about his new fatherhood,
I was kind of waiting for that moment when my kid is going to be around with me in the locker room. The culture that we have here, it is something special, and all the guys love the kids, and it is going to be fun for him as well.
