Former Philadelphia Eagles player Zach Ertz and his wife Julie Ertz welcomed twins, Kace and Kyren, on August 25, 2024. Zach and Julie have been a couple since their college days.

Born and raised in Orange, California, Zach began at Monte Vista High School, where he was named Cal-Hi Sports North Coast Section Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2008.

As a senior, Ertz recorded 56 passes for 756 yards and 14 touchdowns. Ertz eventually enrolled at Stanford University and redshirted his freshman year.

In his sophomore year, Zach caught 16 passes for 190 yards and scored five touchdowns in 13 games.

He made three starts in 10 games in his junior year, with a knee injury keeping him out of action at the start of the season.

Zach was named unanimous All-American with first-team honors in his senior year. As a senior, Zach led Stanford’s pass catchers and all FBS tight ends in receiving yards and total receptions.

The Eagles selected the California native in second-round as the 35th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

In his nine seasons with the Eagles, Ertz was named to the Pro Bowl team three times. He also won the Super Bowl title with the Eagles in his rookie year.

The veteran tight end signed a one-year deal with the Commanders in March 2024. Before joining the Commanders, Ertz played three seasons with the Cardinals.

The Lions signed Ertz to their practice squad but didn’t elevate him to their active roster.

The Commanders have had a stunning turnaround season in 2024 after a dismal performance a year prior.

Recently, the tight end complimented his rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, saying he is the most mature rookie he has been around.

Zach Ertz’s Wife, Julie Ertz, Is A World Cup Champion And An Olympic Medalist

Zach Ertz and his athlete wife, Julie Ertz, come from families that didn’t mind their children excelling in sports.

Julie, an Arizona native, grew up in Mesa with her sister, Melanie. Her father, David Johnston, is a former collegiate football player, and her mother, Kristi, is a registered nurse.

When Julie was 13, David and Kristi asked her if she was serious about her soccer career.

The couple said if Julie is keen to become a professional athlete, they are ready to invest in her dreams.

And certainly, David and Kristi haven’t regretted doing so.

A midfielder, Julie played college soccer at Santa Clara University for four years.

In her rookie year, she led her team in assists with five and was named WCC Freshman of the Year.

Julie played 79 games and scored 31 goals for the Broncos. In the 2014 NWSL Draft, the Chicago Red Stars selected Julie as the third overall pick.

She played for the Red Stars for seven seasons, during which she made 95 appearances and scored six goals.

She was part of the 2015 US World Cup team and was one of the five players who played every minute in all seven matches.

The US Women’s Soccer team went on to win the World Cup against Japan despite Ertz scoring an own goal.

Sadly, a year later, the US team couldn’t replicate their success in the 2016 Rio Olympics and crashed out in the quarter-final match against Sweden.

Julie and the US team successfully defended their World Cup title in 2019. She was also named US Soccer’s Female Player of the Year.

After the 2021 season, Julie left the Chicago Red Stars and joined Angel City FC.

Julie took a year-and-a-half break before making her first start for Angel City FC and joined the team in April 2023.

But in August 2023, Julie announced her retirement from the sport to focus on her family.

Julie And Zach Met During A Baseball Game In 2012

Zach and Julie were students at nearby universities, which led to Julie attending a baseball game at Stanford University in 2012.

It was love at first sight for the two. In an interview with Philly Mag, Zach revealed the two had their first date at Chipotle, which, as confirmed by Zach, is his favorite place to eat.

Despite the football player being drafted by the Eagles, the two continued their relationship.

Zach and Julie have always turned up for each other’s games. In 2015, after Julie and the US Women’s team won the World Cup, Zach shared a sweet post for his future wife.

A year after Julie became a World Champion, another big surprise awaited her.

On February 27, 2016, Zach proposed to Julie at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond Stadium, the same place they first met four years ago.

Zach shared a picture of him going down on one knee with a shocked Julie facing him.

In a 2016 interview with PEOPLE, Julie talked about a big summer ahead with the Olympics and her wedding preparation.

On March 26, 2017, the couple tied the knot in Santa Barbara, California.

Their wedding was themed around their sports career, with the flower girl and ring bearer wearing their sports jerseys, and the wedding cake was topped with footballs and soccer balls.

On June 20, 2022, Julie posted pictures from her baby shower, which had a blue theme hinting that the couple was having a baby boy.

Zach and Julie became first-time parents on August 11, 2022, as they welcomed Madden Matthew Ertz to the world.

In 2023, Julie shared a photo of her kissing Zach from the stands as he held Madden.

For Halloween 2023, the Ertz family dressed as Pongo, Perdita, and Patch, the characters from the movie One Hundred and One Dalmatians.

In April 2024, Zach and Julie announced they were expecting their second child.
