Coaches shall build the talent, not steal!

Omaha South Football Coach Djuan Johnson recently shared a post on Facebook about how some coaches focus on stealing talented athletes rather than developing them.

He addressed the issue of other programs trying to “steal” talented players instead of developing them.

According to Johnson, some coaches focus more on taking players from other teams than on building their own program.

Football Coach From Fort Worth, Texas, Speaks Up About How Others Try to Steal Athletes Rather Than Develop Them on Their Own

In his post, Johnson highlighted a recent example. An Omaha South freshman athlete defeated an upperclass athlete at the Benson Wrestling Invite.

Later, after the game, other coaches reportedly tried to recruit the freshman to their own programs, which Johnson called “shameful” and emphasized that at Southside, the focus is on developing athletes, not just recruiting them.

Johnson proudly explained that Omaha South doesn’t just chase wins or already skilled players.

Instead, the program works to make athletes better. He encouraged families with younger players, even 8th graders, to consider joining Southside’s program.

The program promises strong athletic training while also ensuring academic success.

According to the post, students are expected to graduate with a 3.5 GPA, showing that Southside values both sports and academics.

The Facebook post also included support from current and former athletes, parents, and community members.

In the comments, many have praised Johnson and the coaching staff for their hard work in the schools.

Many praised the focus on developing young athletes and expressed pride in the Southside program’s achievements.

One commenter noted that stealing players is “demonic” and undermines the true purpose of coaching, while another appreciated the academic support Southside provides.

While Johnson has not revealed details about other coaches, he seems to believe that talent should not be stolen, but rather built, and that is what he has been doing.
