Dolores and Eugenio Rivera, parents of an American football coach Ron Rivera, have supported their son’s football career since the beginning.

Ron Rivera grew up in a military family. His father was Puerto Rican US Army and was stationed in California, where he met his future wife, Dolores.

Growing up in a strict household, Ron learned the importance of discipline and responsibility, which are core values that can be seen in his coaching style.

Ronald Eugene Rivera is currently serving as the head coach for the Washington Commanders in the NFL.

Before his coaching career, Ron had an amazing NFL career as a player after being drafted in the second round of the 1984 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears.

After retiring from playing, he transitioned into coaching in 1997 with the Bears as a quality control coach.

Rivera then worked with the Philadelphia Eagles as a linebackers coach. In 2004, he returned to the Bears as a defensive coordinator, earning accolades such as the Assistant Coach of the Year.

After a stint with the San Diego Chargers, Rivera became the head coach for the Carolina Panthers, where he made history as the franchise’s winningest coach.

He was twice honored as the NFL Coach of the Year and led the team to Super Bowl 50.

Ron Rivera, the successful football coach, has always drawn inspiration and strength from his parents, Dolores and Eugenio Rivera.

As a young athlete, Ron’s mother, Dolores, took great care to shield him from negative news that could distract him from his game.

Her support and encouragement played a crucial role in keeping Ron focused and determined.

Ron was born in 1962 in California to a multicultural family.

His father, Eugene, is of Puerto Rican descent, while his mother, Dolores, has a mixed heritage, being of Mexican and Filipino origin.

Eugenio Rivera, Ron’s father, served in the U.S. Army for 32 years, leading the family to move several times.

As a result, Ron attended schools in various parts of the world, including Germany, Panama, and Washington, D.C. They eventually settled in Marina, California.

Sadly, in 2022, Ron’s mother, Dolores, passed away for unknown reasons.

Ron reminisced that his mother was always an active participant in several activities, including bake sales and Christmas bazaars, while also serving as a team mom for her son’s sports teams.

Ron Lost His Brother To Cancer

Rivera lost one of his close family members to cancer.

He faced a heartbreaking loss when his older brother, Mickey, passed away from pancreatic cancer.

Mickey was diagnosed in 2013 and lost his battle in 2015 at the age of 56 in Reno, Nev.

Remembering Mickey, Ron shared how selfless and humble he was. Despite his illness, Mickey didn’t want sympathy.

Instead, he hoped people wouldn’t feel sorry for him, acknowledging he had lived a good life.

Mickey’s fight with pancreatic cancer deeply impacted Ron, leading him to support the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

In 2020, Ron faced his own cancer battle, going through chemotherapy during the football season.
