His parents raised him with his brother Jordon, who works as an NHL goaltender coach after playing for American Hockey League and East Coast Hockey League.
Jordon sustained a fatal injury in the 2007-2008 season and missed the entire season.
Even after his return, his career had an inevitable downfall, which led to his ultimate retirement on September 17, 2013.
According to The Athletic, Zach belongs to an athletic family, he and Jordon followed the path his father paved during his playing years.
Jean was an NHL legend who spent most of his career spanning the Minnesota North and the New York Islanders, to which, in total, he played 900 league games.
After his retirement in 1979, from 1980-1988, he served as a coaching assistant for eight years in the North Stars organization.
In addition, Jean also worked with the NHL as a scout and executive.
Unfortunately, 2014 was the most challenging time for the Parise family, as Jean was diagnosed with the fourth stage of lung cancer.
Two months later, on January 7, 2014, sadly, due to his deteriorating health, Jean passed away at 73.
