William Theodore Walton III, aka Bill Walton, born on November 5, 1952, is an American television sportscaster and former professional basketball player.
He achieved great success in his basketball career, beginning with his college years playing for the UCLA Bruins under coach John Wooden.
Walton won three consecutive National College Player of the Year awards from 1972 to 1974 and led UCLA to NCAA championships in 1972 and 1973, including an impressive 88-game winning streak.
In the 1974 NBA Daft, Walton was selected as the first overall pick and went on to lead the Portland Trail Blazers to an NBA championship in 1977.
He was honored with the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award that season. Later, in 1986, Walton secured another NBA title as a member of the Celtics.
In recognition of his achievements, Walton was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993.
