But after his playing career ended in 2005, Hoiberg began his coaching career with Iowa State in 2010. After five seasons, Hoiberg joined the Chicago Bulls under a five-year contract for $25 million.

The NBA team fired him after a 5-19 start to the 2018 season, and a year later, he was named the head coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Fred Hoiberg Wife: Meet Carol Hoiberg

Fred Hoiberg wife, Carol Hoiberg, is native to Ames, Iowa, and has been married to the basketball coach for 27 years. Carol has shared several family pictures on her Instagram handle, with the latest being on Christmas.

The two had begun dating while they were students at Ames High School, and their love story continued when they enrolled at Iowa State University. Carol’s father, Denis McGee, was a professor at Iowa State, and so was Fred’s dad.

The couple has gone through many highs and lows together. During the early 2000s, Fred was still an NBA player and played for the Timberwolves when he had to retire due to an enlarged aortic root prematurely.

Fred had known he had an enlarged bicuspid aortic valve since his collegiate days. But in 2005, a month before surgery, he learned it had grown to the extent that it required attention.

After his first open heart surgery procedure in 2005, one night, Carol found her husband lying face down in a pool of blood. She immediately called 9-1-1, and doctors discovered he had fluid buildup in his heart area.

The basketball coach had another open heart procedure in 2015. A year before that procedure, in 2014, Fred had his pacemaker’s batteries replaced. But since then, the coach hasn’t had any medical complications.

Carol loves sharing tribute posts for her husband and kids on her social media handle. Last year, she shared a sweet post on her 27th wedding anniversary.

Mrs Hoiberg captioned the post, “27 years today! Time flies when you marry your best friend! Love you, babe!”

In 2019, after graduating, Paige joined Learfield IMG College as a property assistant. She worked there for a year, before joining Big Ten Network as a sales planne.

She was promoted to supervisor a year later, but last year, she joined Stryker, the medical technological company, as an associate sales representative. She is available on Instagram but has kept her handle private.

Fred and Carol’s second child, Jack Hoiberg, was born on March 11, 1999. Jack followed in his father’s footsteps and joined Michigan State University in 2017.

But with Michigan State, Jack didn’t get much game time and joined the University of Texas Arlington after he completed his senior year. He graduated from Michigan with a communication degree in 2021.

Jack scored 85 points in 25 games and averaged 3.2 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game in his sole season with UTA. Since 2022, Jack has been working as a basketball operations video analyst for Spurs Sports & Entertainment.
