Samboy Lim Wife: The passing of the legendary basketball player has shocked the fans of Lim in the Philippines.
Lim left an indelible mark on Philippine basketball with his high-flying moves, earning him immense respect among the fans.
Moreover, Lim’s former spouse, Darlene Marie Berberabe, and their only child, Jamie Lim, survive him.
Avelino Borromeo Lim, better known as Samboy “The Skywalker” Lim, was born on April 1, 1962, in Quezon City, Philippines.
Skywalker’s discovery occurred at 15 years old while playing on the courts of Phil-Am Life Homes in Quezon, thanks to former basketball player Jun Celis.
This subsequently led to athletic scholarships, a significant help considering that, as the younger Lim entered high school, his father, Lim Sr., passed away due to coronary thrombosis.
In 1986, Samboy joined San Miguel Beermen, the only PBA Team for which he played during his entire 11-year professional career. He made his pro debut on October 7, 1986.
Additionally, he received the first-ever sportsmanship award for his exemplary behavior on the court.
After retiring in 1997, he took on the role of manager for San Miguel, Barangay Ginebra Kings, and Welcoat House Paints.

Samboy Lim was married to his ex-wife Darlene Marie Berberabe in 1995.
Darlene is the former CEO of Home Development Mutual Fund, otherwise known as the PAG-IBIG Fund.
Moreover, she also holds the position of UP Professorial Lecturer and is a graduate of the University of the Philippines in Philosophy and Law.
Likewise, the couple has only one daughter, Jamie Christine Berberabe Lim, born on May 13, 1997.
Jamie is a gold and silver medalist in karate.
Additionally, Christine competes in the 61 kg weight class and is a well-known martial artist in the Philippines.
After 10 years of marriage, the legendary Samboy and his wife decided to separate, finalizing their divorce in 2005.
However, according to Darlene, she and Lim maintained an amicable relationship despite divorce, often celebrating Lim’s birthday with their daughter.
In addition, Darlene was consistently there for him during his years of sickness, always taking care of him.
Neither Lim nor Darlene married another person after their divorce.
How Did The Skywalker Lim Die?
Lim’s health posed challenges during his playing days due to numerous injuries resulting from his stunts on the court.
However, on the evening of November 28, 2014, he was rushed unconscious to a hospital after collapsing just minutes after exiting a PBA Legends exhibition game at the Ynares Center in Pasig.
Slipping into a coma, the medical staff initially admitted him to the Intensive Care Unit of the Medical City before later transferring him to the intermediate care unit.
On January 14, 2015, he emerged from his comatose state and was brought home, where he continued to receive treatment and therapy.
For years, a team of medical specialists provided round-the-clock, 24-hour medical care to Samboy.
Sadly, he passed away at the age of 61 on December 23, 2023.
His family members confirmed his passing on Lim’s official Facebook page.
The post mentioned that Lim peacefully passed away at the Medical City, surrounded by family led by former wife Darlene and daughter Jamie, along with former teammate Allan Caidic and pal Robert Evangelista during his final moments.
On her social media, fans and well-wishers are offering condolences to the player and words of encouragement to Jamie.
