Santiago Vescovi sister, Lucia Vescovi, turned 18 earlier this year. She is the only sibling of the Tennessee Volunteers guard Santiago Vescovi.
Like her brother, Lucia is an athlete, and the siblings weren’t the first ones from their family to become athletes. Their maternal grandfather, Daniel Vannet, was a star basketball player in their homeland, Uruguay.
The youngster also wore the No. 9 jersey, previously in memory of his grandfather. The 22-year-old committed to Tennessee in 2019 and had previously attended The NBA Global Academy.
Earlier this year, in April, Vescovi had announced he would return to Tennessee for a fifth season after finishing as Tenneesse’s leading scorer in 2022.
This week, it was announced that Vescovi, with his teammate Zakai Zeigler, would miss the exhibition game against Michigan State. The youngster had to fly to Uruguay to be with his family as his grandmother was said to be seriously ill.
Santiago Vescovi Sister, Lucia Vescovi
Santiago Vescovi’s younger sister, Lucia Vescovi, was born on March 13, 2004. Lucia turned 18 earlier this year and like her brother, is an athlete.
Though they do not play the same sport, the two siblings have certainly inherited their family’s athletic genes. In her homeland, Uruguay, where she lives with their parents, Lucia is a handball player.
Lucia plays as a center back and stands at 5’4. She is available on Facebook but hasn’t shared a post for a long time. With her parents, Laura Vannet and Pablo Vescovi, Lucia arrived in the States in 2020 to surprise Santiago before a game.
During an interview, the trio snuck behind Santiago to surprise him. His mother covered his eyes, and his father wrapped his hands around Santiago’s chest as his sister leaned around him smiling.
Lucia said hi, and so did Laura and Pablo. When his mom said hi loud enough, Santiago shouted, “That’s mom.”
The family had booked a rental car, hotels, and flights without Santiago’s knowledge and left Uruguay late Friday night and flew to Miami. They then arrived in Charlotte and later arrived in Knoxville for a ten-day visit.
Previously, the basketball player has shared a few family photos on his Instagram. In 2015, a young Santiago shared a snap of him and Lucia from their trip to the Bahamas. Lucia is also present in the family photo shared by Santiago in 2017 of their trip to Aruba.
Santiago Vescovi Girlfriend, Maria Nelson
Santiago Vescovi’s girlfriend, Maria Nelson, is a soccer player for the Tennessee Vols. A Medina, Ohio native, Maria plays as a defender for the Vols.
In her high school, Maria was named the 2018 Division I Player of the Year and also earned the title of 2018 United Soccer Coaches High School All-American.
She enrolled at Tennessee in 2019, and in her freshman year, Maria started 16 matches and was credited for one assist. She missed the entirety of the 2020 season due to injury and was redshirted a year later.
In 2021, Maria appeared in 12 games and made two assists. Earlier this year, Maria recorded her first goal for the Vols in the season-opening win over California.
On January 25, Santiago shared a post celebrating the couple’s first anniversary. He captioned the post, “Can’t believe it’s been already 365 days with you.”
He further added, “Thank you for being you and being there for me every single day! I love you!”
In June, Maria even took a trip to Uruguay with her partner, where she enjoyed spending time with Santiago’s family.
The couple went public with their relationship in March 2022, and Maria, too shared an appreciation post for her boyfriend on their first anniversary.
