His father, Marquis Deon Grissom (b. April 17, 1967), played as a baseball center fielder from 1989 to 2005.

The 2023 minor league season was his 2nd season, where he averaged a 2.18 ERA and took 39 strikeouts from 31 games.

Although the terms of his contract are not out, he allegedly made a chunk in the 6-digit figure. In 2022, he had signed a deal of $125K for that season.

Growing up with a father with an MLB background, Grissom Jr. dipped his toes in baseball at a young age. But it wasn’t until he attended Counterpane School that he put his ability to the test.

In his junior year, Marquis Jr. became the 13th round (381st overall pick) of the Washington Nationals in the 2022 MLB draft. The 6 feet 2 inches tall player was then assigned to the minor league team, Fredericksburg Nationals.

From his parents’ marriage, he has a younger sister, Gabriella Grissom (b. May 29, 2004). A track & field athlete, Gabriella became a two-time Georgia state champion (in 400m & 800m) while at Sandy Creek High School.

In 2023, she is in her sophomore year at the University of Miami.
