Yuzuru Hanyu, the first Japanese to win the Pyeongchang gold in the Olympics, is a man of extreme secrecy when it comes to his dating life. However, the two-time Olympic champion announced the news of his marriage in a social media post on Friday (4 August).

In a post on social media, posted at 11:11 pm in Japan, Hanyu thanked fans for their support throughout his skating career and said: “Thank you for your constant support. I, Hanyu Yuzuru, am pleased to announce that I have decided to get married.”

He did not provide details of his partner nor when the ceremony took place.

Yuzuru Hanyu is a Japanese figure skater and ice show producer who was born on December 7, 1994, in Sendai, Japan.

Regarded as the most excellent skater in history by many, Hanyu’s accolades and honors back this statement.

He is a two-time Olympic champion (2014,2018), a two-time World Champion (2014, 2017), a four-time Grand Prix Final champion, and the list continues. During his career, he broke world records 19 times. 

Yuzuru is widely known for his ability to perform under pressure and his longevity to stay at the top in a highly professional scene.

In acknowledgment of his achievements, Hanyu received the People’s Honor Award in 2018, the first figure skater and the youngest award winner.

In addition to this, the Emperor of Japan awarded the Medal of Honour with Purple Ribbon in 2014 and 2018 to him.

Hanyu retired from competitive skating in 2022 & only competes as a professional now.

Yuzuru Hanyu, the well-renowned figure skater, has been the subject of interest for a long time.

Despite being in the media spotlight from such a young age, his personal life, distinctively his romantic relationships, has remained out of the public eye.

On August 4, 2023, however, the two-time Olympic champion announced the news of his marriage in a social media post.

Hanyu thanked his fans in a post on social media, posted at 11:11 pm in Japan, for their support throughout his skating career, and said: “Thank you for your constant support. I, Hanyu Yuzuru, am pleased to announce that I have decided to get married.”

He did not provide details of his partner nor when the ceremony took place.

Fans often speculated that Hanyu was gay because of his close relationship with his training partner, Javier Fernandez. Hanyu and Javier started training together in 2012 and have been good friends ever since. 

The rumors about them became even more, louder when Javier described their relationship in an interview with Reuters, saying that the relationship feels more like having a wife. 

But Javier meant that he regards Hanyu as a best friend.

Hanyu Is A Philanthropist 

Yuzuru Hanyu has always remained open to charity work and giving back to the community.

Since the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, Hanyu has been actively advocating for various campaigns to help the victims.

The disaster also affected him directly. He raised a total of $185,387 during the fundraiser, a part of the money came from his own pocket.

Additionally, he donated his 2014 & 2018 Olympic gold medal prize money worth around $150,000 to the earthquake-affected areas to fund the reconstruction of the demolished structures.

Lately, he collected 150 million yen from the sales of his exhibition and gave the money to a foundation. In 2023, the same foundation donated 10 million yen to the Turkey-Syria earthquake victims.
