Joey Galyan’s wife, Lisa, was the steady force behind his strength and perseverance.

Bobby Joe Galyan, Jr.—affectionately known as “Joey”—passed away peacefully on July 23, 2025, at the age of 65, after a courageous and faith-driven battle with cancer.

His passing marked the end of a life dedicated to service, mentorship, and unwavering love for others.

From his early days as a proud U.S. Air Force veteran to his final years as a passionate educator and sports official, Joey gave his all to his community, students, and family.

Though cancer steadily took a physical toll on his body beginning in 2019, it never broke his spirit, work ethic, or the light he brought into the lives of others.

Joey’s final years were filled with purpose, especially in the classroom at Zephyrhills High School, where he returned to teach after decades of service across the Pasco County school system.

His battle with cancer never stopped him from showing up—with his signature smile, a sense of humor, and a heart set on giving.

Even off the field and out of the classroom, he continued to impact youth through coaching, officiating, and mentoring.

His Wife Was Joey Galyan’s Rock Before and After Death

At the heart of Joey Galyan’s strength and perseverance stood his devoted wife, Lisa Whitfield Galyan.

Married in the year 2000, Lisa and Joey shared 25 years of partnership that was built on deep love, shared faith, and a life full of memories that extended beyond hardship.

Their relationship began through mutual family friends and quickly evolved into a bond rooted in soul-level understanding.

To Joey, Lisa was far more than a spouse—she was his constant, his comfort, and his co-pilot through every chapter of life.

Lisa stood faithfully beside Joey throughout his cancer journey, providing emotional strength, spiritual support, and unwavering care.

Whether accompanying him on long road trips between Cullman, Alabama, and Zephyrhills, Florida, or sitting beside him at prayer gatherings, Lisa embodied devotion.

Joey often shared public expressions of love and gratitude for her on social media—referring to her as the “one I love,” his “Valentine,” and the reason he pushed to become a better man.

On Mother’s Day, he celebrated Lisa’s nurturing spirit, calling her a woman of selflessness, kindness, and generosity who walked alongside him with grace and compassion.

As Joey is remembered by his students, fellow teachers, athletes, and community members, Lisa remains the living thread of the life they built together.

Her continued presence is a reminder of the love that fueled Joey’s fight and the legacy he leaves behind in their children, Avyanna and Jarrin.

Lisa Galyan, the quiet but constant force in Joey’s remarkable journey, now carries forward his light, love, and legacy.
