Her mother worked as a Deputy Director at a primary school, while her dad is a retired PE teacher.

Likewise, she started learning swimming when she was eight years old; however, she practiced gymnasium for a short period before this.

Luckily, her parents always supported and encouraged her to take lessons and manage her career initially. She once said, 

“I have always loved to swim in the water, yet I didn’t consciously become a swimmer.”

Following the minor success, Jakabos indulges herself more in training and practices. Finally, at 14, she won her first gold medal in European Youth Olympic Festival.

The following year, Jakabos was allowed to compete in Adult European Championship; that’s when she was sure that she enjoyed swimming and competition and set out to be a professional swimmer.

Swimming Career

In 2003, she made her first international debut at European Olympic Festival. After that, she went on competing in different games without the motive of being a professional swimmer.

However, when she competed in the European Youth Championship at 14, Jakabos’s passion for swimming became a professional career.

She then competed in different National and International games, and in 2004, made her first debut in the Olympic Games held in Athens. Though she didn’t win, Zsuzsanna made a good foundation by ranking fifteenth in her first Olympics.

For all her achievements, she was named Swimmer of the Year in 2005. Winning and praising become so addictive to humans that they keep on exceeding their past self to experience that moment again. So was the case for Jakabos.

In the 2008 Olympic Games, she participated for the second time and earned her lifetime best achievement of sixth place; as a result, she was honored with the Bronze Cross of Merit of the Hungarian Republic.
