Scott Frost New Job: Iowa Hawkeyes Eying The Fired Coach

This article was last updated by on

Scott Frost is rumored to be joining the Iowa Hawkeyes after being fired by the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Despite spending almost five years with Nebraska, Frost could not lead the team to noteworthy victories, resulting in him getting fired in September 2022.

As of now, fans are speculating about Frost’s new job to be with the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Scott Andrew Frost, born January 4, 1975, is a former American football coach and player.

The Wood River High School graduate began his collegiate career at Stanford before being transferred to Nebraska.

The 1996 Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year led the Cornhuskers to two National Championships (1995 and 1997).

The New York Jets selected Scott in the third round (67th overall) of the 1998 NFL Draft. Later, he played with the Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Following his career as a player, Frost started working as a coach for Nebraska, Kansas State, Northern Iowa, Oregon, and UCF.

Throughout his coaching career, the 2017 AAC Coach of the Year won the AP College Football Coach of the Year, Home Depot Coach of the Year, and Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year.

Is Scott Frost Offered A New Job By Iowa Hawkeyes?

Scott Frost, former head coach of Nebraska Cornhuskers Football, is rumored to return to coaching sooner than expected.

Moreover, he may not be done causing headaches to his former teams just yet.

Although Frost’s departure from Nebraska was controversial, he is still highly regarded and could land a job as an offensive coordinator soon.

People speculate that Scott could even end up with the Iowa Hawkeyes. This would set up a rivalry between him and his former team.

However, Iowa’s more traditional offensive style may not seem like a good fit for Frost. What supports his potential to enter the team is the recent firing of Brian Ferentz.

This could potentially lead to a coaching change and an opportunity for Frost to exact revenge.

Despite all the rumors, the truth about Scott joining Iowa is not official yet.

Why Was Scott Frost Fired?

Scott accepted the head football coach position at his alma mater, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, on December 2, 2017.

Soon after he became the head coach, the team took a toll downward and had its worst football season back to back.

Though the 2019 season started off better for Frost, it did not last long. Due to the COVID pandemic, Nebraska’s 2020 season was cut to a conference-only, eight-game schedule.

Moreover, the team won only three games that season against Penn State, Purdue, and Rutgers.

In 2021, Nebraska Athletics Director Trev Alberts announced that Frost would return for the 2022 season, but with a salary reduced by $1 million and a lower buyout.

On the same day, Scott dismissed four offensive coaching assistants. That season, Nebraska finished the season with a 3-9 record.

In the first four seasons as Nebraska’s head coach, the team never played a good game. Frost posted a record of 5–20 in games decided by 8 points or less, a 10–25 record in Big Ten Conference games, and a 0–14 record against ranked opponents.

In fact, Scott became the first Nebraska head coach since Bill Jennings (1957–1961) not to have a winning season during his tenure.

Finally, when Nebraska couldn’t take it anymore, they fired Scott on 11 September 2022. It was the day after the Cornhuskers lost 45-42 at their home to Georgia Southern.
