Standing 6’8”, Adam Morrison is a retired American professional basketball player. The legendary player of the NBA started his professional career with Charlotte Bobcats.

He had also played for other NBA teams like Los Angeles Lakers, Red Star Belgrade, and Besiktas. He has also been a part of the American National Junior Basketball team.

Adam Morrison: Early Life and Education 

Adam started playing basketball at a very early age. He has always loved basketball and wanted to do something big in the same field. Thus, he attended Gonzaga basketball camp.

He was born to John Morrison (Father) and Wanda Morrison (mother). Besides, his Father was a head coach of basketball. So, we can say loving basketball is in his genes.

Morrison had to move from place to place during his childhood as his Father’s work was like that. Morrison’s Father left coaching when Adam was in fourth grade, and the whole family moved to Washington permanently.

Everything was going fine until Adam reached eighth grade. Then, he suddenly lost 14 kg of weight and became extremely sick. 

Unfortunately, Adam was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at a young age. But Adam was one strong individual who didn’t let his disease fade his dreams.

So, when the nurse came to give insulin the next day, Adam insisted she teaches him to take insulin as he wanted to learn it.

With regular medication, Adam started his practice and soon became the star of Mead Senior High. Adam even led his team to the finals of the state tournament.

But again, due to hypoglycemia Adam almost suffered a seizure. Even after so much hard work, Adam couldn’t make Med win that tournament.

Adam Morrison: Career

Adam’s career officially started from his high school days, but it took a new turn, and he reached a different level of success from his University career.

In 2003, Morrison started playing for Gonzaga Bulldogs. Soon after he arrived there, he won WCC (West Coast Conference), finishing that year with an average of 11.4 points.

Again in year two, he made Gonzaga win WCC; with Adam’s arrival, Gonzaga reached its new height.

In the 2005-06 season, Adam couldn’t perform well in the initial phase, but as an actual player, he bounced back, and after two losses, he again won the third match and reached his career-high points, i.e., 44 points.

2006 was a challenging year for Morrison; he burst into tears during a match and collapsed. For this, many criticized Adam, but many came to his support.

Later the same year, Adam was awarded the national player of the year award. With this, their college career Adam ended.

Professional Career

In 2006 Adam was drafted by the Charlotte Bobcats; his professional journey started. Besides, he signed a contract for two years, and his debut match was with the Indian Padres, where he scored 14 points.

Besides, Adam was the first player drafted by Michael Jordan in his tenure as Manager of Basketball Operations at the Bobcats.

Adam didn’t let Jordan down and proved his worth by scoring 30 points, his career-highest point then.

Everything was going fine, but in 2007 Adam couldn’t perform due to his knee injury and had to rest after the surgery. In the healing process, he missed the whole 2007-08 season.

After that, Adam’s contract with Bobcats ended, and after recovery, Adam got drafted by Los Angeles Lakers.

Even though Adam won NBA championships with the Lakers in 2009 and 2010, he only got limited playtime, and after that, he got released from there the same year.

In 2011, Adam became the top scorer of Crvena Zvezda. And his last team before retiring from NBA was Beşiktaş, but he couldn’t sustain himself there due to limited playtime.

Lastly, he retired from his basketball career in September 2012.

Coaching Career

Even after retirement, he wanted to contribute more to basketball. So, he chose to be a coach like his Father. So, in 2013, Adam became an assistant coach for Gonzaga.
