Alex Killorn was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. His parents are Matt Killorn and Cindy Killorn.

Furthermore, he has two sisters, namely Katie And Rachel. The siblings are quite close and are often seen celebrating each other’s milestones. 

The NHL player grew up in a relatively average family. Since his mother is a teacher, she prioritized education for her children more than anything.

Education was everything for me … it was my top priority. I challenged them. There was no practice; there was no hockey if the homework wasn’t done.

The athlete’s parents brought him to America to look for prep schools. Alex eventually chose to attend Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts.

In 2008, he graduated high school in America with a great GPA and sharpened his hockey skills. The NHL player received acceptance from two Ivy League schools, which he must thank his persistent mother. 

He was accepted by Harvard, Boston College, Boston University, and Yale. Although Havard was not the top-choice hockey school, Killorn decided to attend it anyway.

NHL Career With Tampa Bay Lightning

Early Career

After graduating from Havard, he joined the Norfolk Admirals in the American Hockey League. AK17 even won the Calder Cup with the team.

Then he played for Tampa Bay’s AHL affiliate Syracuse Crunch before joining the Lightning in the 2012-13 season.

After an entry-level contract with the team, Killorn scored his first goal against the Florida Panthers.

In 2014, he signed a two-year contract extension to remain with the team. The left-winger had already shown the NHL team is worth and impact on the team. 

He assisted the Lightning to the Stanley Cup finals in 2015, where they faced the Chicago Blackhawks. The hockey player’s first goal in the Cup was the first goal scored by a Havard Alumni in the finals. 

His post-season stats in 2015 was impressive. Moreover, the Canadian player made his 100th NHL point in a win against the Boston Bruins.

Contract Extension And Stanley Cup Win

In 2016, the Tampa Bay Lightning offered Alex a $31 million extension contract for seven years.

Furthermore, in a game against the Rangers in 2017, the NHL Department of Player Safety fined Killorn $5,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct. 

Rangers player Kevin Hayes was also fined the same amount for squirting water at Alex during the game.

As a retaliation, the Tampa Bay player poked Hayes with his stick before being shoved by Rangers’ winger J.T. Miller. 

Their minor incident started a brawl between the Lightning and Ranger players. Besides that, in 2019, the player made his 100th NHL goal in a game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
