This article was last updated by on

Alyssa Naeher’s parents, John and Donna Naeher, are former athletes residing in their hometown of Connecticut. The couple raised three girls, and their oldest daughters, Amanda and Alyssa, had shown their athletic abilities in high school.

And among the two girls, Alyssa was the only one to continue her sporting journey after high school. Not only did she become a collegiate athlete, but became the starting player for the national soccer team.

Alyssa Naeher has been part of the United States senior team since 2014. In 2015, she won her first international tournament, a World Cup, but didn’t play an active role.

Four years later, in 2019, Naeher was a core player on the team and played every minute of USWNT’s successful World Cup run. Alyssa has been tipped to win the Golden Glove at this year’s World Cup.

And she started off strongly by keeping a clean sheet against Vietnam while her teammates Lindsey Horan and Sofia Smith entered the scoresheet.

Alyssa Naeher’s parents, John and Donna Naeher, raised three girls in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

The USWNT goalkeeper didn’t have to go far from home to search for inspiration. John, a former basketball and track and field athlete, guided Alyssa through every step of her athletic career.

John Naeher Coached His Two Daughters In High School

Alyssa Naeher’s father, John Naeher, graduated from King’s College and was on the basketball and athletic team. He later became the athletic director and boy’s soccer and basketball coach of Christian Heritage High School.

In an interview, John said he played a huge role in the development of his daughter’s athletic ability. But added, even if he didn’t, Alyssa was blessed with God-given talent.

He coached his daughters, Alyssa, and twin sister, Amanda, soccer in high school for all four years and basketball in the junior and senior years.

In 2015, John became a grandparent for the first time after his youngest daughter Abigail gave birth. It was also the same day he saw Alyssa lift the World Cup, a momentous occasion for dad and coach John Naeher.

Donna Naeher Is A Licensed Realtor

Alyssa Naeher’s mother, Donna Naeher, graduated from Western Connecticut State University with Early Childhood Education and teaching degree.

For years Donna worked as a teacher in various private schools and also worked as a senior customer service representative.

But in 2007, during the tough time of the real estate market “crash,” Donna became a realtor. She joined Keller Williams Realty and worked there for 11 years.

In 2018, Donna joined William Raveis Real Estate and has had a lengthy history of success in real estate. On the webpage of Williams Raveis, there is nothing but praise for Donna.

With top-notch negotiation skills and a mix of Southern charm and Northeastern energy, Donna has left many clients impressed. But her partner John wasn’t the only athletic parent.

At Western Connecticut, Donna was part of the tennis team. So, though she might not have been a coach to her daughters, Donna knew what it was like to live a life of an athlete.

Alyssa Naeher Sisters, Amanda, And Abigail

Alyssa Naeher has two sisters, Amanda, her twin sister, and Abigal. Like Alyssa, Amanda was en route to becoming a soccer prodigy, but that didn’t quite happen.

Her youngest sister, Abigail, didn’t show much interest in sports from a young age. She is a registered dietitian nutritionist. She is married to Matt Korman, and the couple shares two kids.

Her Twin Amanda Is A PE Teacher

In an interview with Boston Globe, John explained Amanda and Alyssa were both talented athletes growing up.

But Amanda’s career derailed after suffering from a joint injury in her back during a travel game in 10th grade. Amanda returned to the field after that injury.

With her sister, Amanda hit the 2000-point mark in basketball, but unlike her sister, Amanda chose a life away from the glitz and glam of an athlete.

After graduating from Messiah College with a Health and Physical Education degree, Amanda began working for Charlotte Christian School as a PE Teacher.

She joined in 2011 as a PE Teacher and head coach for the girls’ soccer team, and two years later became the head coach for the volleyball team.
