Robert Montgomery Knight was an American men’s college basketball coach who was best known for his victories and outbursts.

Growing up in Orrville, he attended Orrville High School and began playing organized basketball.

After high school, he joined Ohio State, where he played basketball as a forward for the Buckeyes and won the 1960 NCAA championship.

Following his college career, the two-time Henry Iba Award winner began coaching as an assistant at Cuyahoga Falls High School.

After a season, he joined the United States Military Academy as an assistant before taking the head coach position in 1965.

Extending his college coaching journey, Knight handled the Indiana and Texas Tech men’s basketball teams, collecting numerous accolades.

Some of his major achievement includes the NCAA Division I Championship (1976, 1981, and 1987), Final Four (1973, 1976, 1981, 1987, and 1992), and Naismith College Coach of the Year (1987).

His contract also offered a new car each year, a basic college education for his two sons, and official aircraft use.

However, the university refrained from disclosing further details if the contract included income from other endorsement deals.

After his tenure at Indiana, Bob joined Texas Tech University, signing a five-year/$1.25 million deal.
