Former soccer player Briana Scurry is openly gay- she doesn’t have a husband but a loving wife Chryssa Zizos. The two are married for five years & are parents to two children.

In 2010, Scurry suffered a career-ending injury that left her to struggle with finances & mental health. During that tough time, she got the warm hands of her partner Chryssa.

After her playing career got over, Briana switched to a coaching career & joined as an assistant coach of the Washington Spirit.

As for her wife Chryssa, she is an entrepreneur & is the founder of two companies Live Wire Sports & Entertainment, and Live Wire Strategic Communications.

Briana Scurry’s achievements in the field are inspirations for many newcomers with the soccer dream.

She played as the goalkeeper for the U.S. women’s soccer team. Her notable achievements include gold medals in the 1996 & 2004 Olympics and a victory in the 1999 Women’s World Cup.

The Washington Freedom’s former goalkeeper has a total of 173 international caps, which is the second-highest among female goalkeepers. 

She was the 2017 National Soccer Hall of Fame inductee, being the first woman goalkeeper and the first black woman ever to get that honor.

In 2022, Scurry wrote a trendy book about her life called “My Greatest Save.” In 2022, CBS made a documentary about Scurry’s life called The Only.

The documentary also interviews other players from the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT), like Mia Hamm, Brandi Chastain, Kristine Lilly, and Abby Wambach.

Briana Scurry married Chryssa Zizos on June 1, 2018. She has openly talked about being gay and never hiding from her relationship.

The couple first met in 2012 when Briana had a problem with her insurance company. Zizos’ company supported Scurry to have her story in the news, making things better for her against the insurance Company.

Chryssa Zizos resides in Alexandria, Virginia. She has a daughter, Sydney, and a son, Andrew, from her previous marriage.

Her parents are Poulos Zizos and Andreas T. Zizos. Her dad, Andreas Zizos, died in 1993. He worked for Management Research Associates in Cleveland, Ohio, where he helped companies with their business management.

She has a sister, Zizos, and a brother, Gregory Zizos.

Chryssa Zizos is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University. Then, she went to American University and got a Masters degree in Public Communication.

In 1994, Zizos worked as an Account Executive at Ketchum Public Relations. A year later, she started working for Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide as a Leader in charge of important clients.

In 1998, Zizos opened her own Company to help people talk to the public. She started two companies called Live Wire Strategic Communications – one in Washington, D. C and another in Arlington, VA. 

Head Injury & End Of Playing Career

Briana Scurry suffered a head injury while she was playing soccer in 2010. She collided with an opponent during a game & got hit in her right temple.

As a result of an injury to the brain nerve, she had to quit her soccer career. Things got even worse after she had to struggle with finances as the insurance company denied to pay for her surgery

The former goalie became depressed and owed lots of money. She had to sell her gold medals to pay for it.

Briana Scurry got help from her wife, Chryssa Zizos, to get back her Olympic medals & her spirit.
