Shelden DeMar Williams, the athlete, was born on October 21, 1983, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His parents, Jeannette and Bob Williams were educators.

Williams went to Midwest City High School, and he played for the school’s basketball team. During Shelden’s high school years, it was clear that he wanted to turn into a professional someday.

He was the 2000 and 2001 Oklahoma Defensive Player of the Year. Likewise, he received the Gatorade Oklahoma Player of the Year Award in 2001 and 2002.

Firstly, Williams received the NABC Defensive Player of the Year Award twice (2005 and 2006). Secondly, he was awarded the Associated Press First Team All-American in 2006. 

He was also awarded the John R. Wooden First Team All-American the same year.

Shelden Williams scored 1500 points, had 1000 rebounds, and blocked 350 shots during his collegiate career. He is the third player to achieve that record after Tim Duncan and Ralph Sampson.

In 2006, Williams graduated from Duke University with a bachelor’s degree in sociology.

The Atlanta Hawks selected Williams with the fifth pick in the 2006 NBA draft.

The athlete was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in February 2009, but that didn’t last long. Six months later, the Boston Celtics signed a one-year contract with him.

In July 2010, Williams signed another one-year contract with the Denver Nuggets.

Meanwhile, he was traded to the New York Knicks in February 2011. He played the 2011-2012 NBA season with the New Jersey Nets. 

It was the last NBA season of his career. Shelden Williams played in a total of nine seasons in the NBA. 

After that, he signed a one-year contract with the French basketball club Élan Chalon in 2012. He played in the 2012-13 Euroleague season with the club.

Shelden Williams and Candace Parker met for the first time when Parker was on a recruiting trip to Duke University. Williams was already playing for Duke, and they got along well.

However, Parker decided to join the University of Tennessee. They eventually started dating despite their busy schedules.
