In 2003, Larry Fitzgerald Sr. established the Carol Fitzgerald Memorial Fund in honor of his late wife, Carol.

Born in 1954, Larry Fitzgerald Sr. is an African-American sports broadcast journalist.

Hailing from Chicago, Illinois, Fitzgerald was a two-time All-American defensive tackle during high school.

Moreover, he has covered over 40 career NFL Super Bowls. The veteran sports journalist received backlash for sharing unverified information about former NFL player Randy Moss’s health condition.

Larry Fitzgerald Sr. Met His Wife, Carol, During High School!

Carol is the late wife of celebrated and cherished sportswriter Larry Fitzgerald Sr. 

While many details about their marriage remain ambiguous, Larry and Carol spent their lives together with undying love, care, respect, and devotion.

Larry crossed paths with Carol at Fenger High School. Although there is no proof, they may have been in love in high school.

Hence, this signifies that Carol had been by her husband’s side since the beginning. She saw him struggle, fail, and conquer through life’s ups and downs while rooting for him.

Similarly, Larry has always attributed his professional success to his late wife, Carol.

The couple eventually welcomed their star child, Larry Fitzgerald Jr., in 1983.

Following the birth of Larry Jr., they gave birth to their second son, Marcus Fitzgerald.

With the arrival of two sons, the Fitzgerald couple welcomed immense happiness, contentment, and light to their lives.

However, the Fitzgerald family experienced an inconsolable loss when Carol passed away on April 10, 2003.

While she was receiving treatment for her breast cancer, she suddenly passed away due to a brain hemorrhage.

However, she played a significant role in her husband’s and son’s lives. After her death, Larry Sr. founded the Carol Fitzgerald Memorial Fund in 2003.

It is a 501-C3 nonprofit organization that raises money annually for breast cancer-HIV research and urban education.

Moreover, Fitzgerald Jr. fulfilled a promise to his mother, Carol, to pursue his education by completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Phoenix in 2016.
