Clyde Edwards-Helaire is an agile and fast-paced running back for the Kansas City Chiefs, joining the league in 2020.

The Louisiana-born played high school football at Catholic and collegiate football at LSU.

Selected in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Clyde’s biggest sporting moment came in 2023, when his KC Chiefs won the Super Bowl.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire Sister Maddee

The Chiefs’ running back has a sister named Maddee Helaire. Unfortunately, Maddee was diagnosed with Congenital Muscular Dystrophy at birth.

Despite doctors giving her little chance for survival, Maddee defied the odds and overcame the disorder.

Thanks to a lot of hard work, therapy, and prayers, she not only continues to live but is also thriving in her young life.

Currently, Maddee advocates for individuals with Muscular Dystrophy, working towards increasing awareness and fundraising for the organization.

Moreover, the Muscular Dystrophy Association recently appointed her as the Ambassador for the annual Shamrock Campaign.

“I think that we should all be able to find a cure and make sure that anyone with Muscular Dystrophy should have a better life.”

Clyde also mentioned that Maddee’s battles have inspired him in his athletic ventures.

“I always get asked, what motivates me during football. And you know, my answer is always Madison.”

In a heartwarming response, Maddee also revealed she loves having her brother as the main cheerleader of the team. Undoubtedly, Clyde shares a strong bond with his sister.

Furthermore, he has also revealed that his decision to join the nursing school is partly due to Maddee.

His Father And Stepdad

Clyde comes from a distinctive family background, having been raised by three parents. To begin with, his biological father was a high-school football star.

In a rash decision to make quick money for his family, Clyde’s dad was trapped in the world of selling drugs at 17.

Subsequently, the FBI and DEA got wind of his misdoings and sent him to prison for a sentence of 30 years.

He departed, leaving behind a family that comprised his 11-year-old son, Clyde, and his mother, Tonge.

Just months after this incident, Tonge met Shannon Helaire at her work. The two bonded over their military background and quickly fell in love.

Tonge and Shannon exchanged wedding vows in 2002. As the years passed, Shannon and Clyde developed a strong, close relationship, sharing common interests such as fishing and sports.

Giving kudos to his stepdad, Clyde mentioned he never felt the void of not having a father figure.

“I wasn’t missing a father figure or anything. My stepdad, he was there. All props to him. Going to practice and everything else. He was there. Games, he was there.”

After slowly getting to grips with his life, his biological father has also stated he is happy for his ex-wife and son.

“His stepdad stepped up to the plate and did the things that I wasn’t able to do.”

Undoubtedly, Clyde Edwards-Helaire shares one of American sports’ most unique family backgrounds.
