On September 28, 1995, Cody Martin was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He grew up in the small town of Cooleemee, North Carolina, with a population of 960.

Martin spent his childhood in a small trailer that was only 300 square feet.

Cody and his brother starred in baseball and through their freshman year at Davie County High School in Mocksville, North Carolina. They played three seasons at high school. The Martins got their first offer from Wake Fore, an ACC school 120 miles east in their sophomore years.

They started on the local AAU team, Davie Fastbreak, and then moved onto team loaded, a higher-echelon travel squad. 

Oak Hill Academy, the nation’s most prestigious prep basketball school, noticed the Martins as the noise of their excellent game went all around the city. The Oak Hill coaches invited Cody and his brother to the Boo Williams tournament. It was one of the biggest events on the AAU calendar.

Martin played on the national stage during his senior season. He had a major role in the team. The team ranked fourth in the nation in the final MaxPreps.com rankings.

Because of his hard work and dedication, Martin was ranked as the top 100 players in the nation. Hence the martin twins got the opportunity to play for NC-State.

College Career

Cody scored 6.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game in the sophomore season. The Martin twins displayed excellent game in the NCAA Tournament and led NC State to Sweet16. They were in NC State from 2014-2016. 

Both Martin twins averaged more than 25 minutes per game and were production players in college basketball’s toughest conference as sophomores.

After two seasons in college, the Martin twins joined Nevada in 2017. They believed in Nevada coach Eric Musselman.

He committed to the Wolf Pack over Rutgers and became one of the school’s highest-recruited players ever.  

After analyzing their dedication and hard work, the teammates saw Martin twins as the team leader.

Martin scored 14 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game and led the Wolf Pack to an NCAA Tournament appearance. 

Martin twins declared for the 2018 NBA draft after the end of the season. They did not hire an agent and preserved their ability to return to college. Both were participants for the NBA Draft Combine that year but ultimately decided to stay in Nevada for their senior seasons. 

In 2018, Martin got the title of Mountain West Conference defensive player.

In his senior season, Martin was named to the Preseason MWC Team. Teammates and coaches were impressed by Cody’s versatility, discipline, determination, passion, and game skillset. 

Professional Career 

Charlotte Hornets selected Martin with no. 36 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. On July 31, 2019, Martin signed with the Charlotte Hornets. Martin made his debut in NBA on October 25, 2019.

The team lost 121-99 points to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He scored 4 points, 4 rebounds, an assist, and a steal. 

On November 29, 2019, Martin received his first assignment to Greensboro Swarm, with Hornets’ NBA G league. He scored 5.4 points per game for the Hornets, shooting 54.5 points from 3 point range.

Martin has been playing for Hornets since 2019 and never failed to deliver his best gameplay. He has shown incredible games during the 2020-2021 NBA season.
