Crystal Dunn’s parents, Vincent and Rhonda Dunn, raised two athletic kids in Rockville Center. Dunn’s brother, Henry, is a former baseball player.
Standing at 5’2, many had written off Crystal from becoming a soccer player. She talked about it in an interview, about how she overcame her self-consciousness about her short stature.
A natural-born athlete, as said by her father, Crystal was known for scoring clutch goals for her team during her youth career. The New York native was part of the team that won the 2019 World Cup alongside Megan Rapinoe and Alex Morgan.
Now in 2023, Crystal Dunn is looking forward to repeating the feat. A versatile player, Dunn has played in every position possible in her soccer career.
There is a discourse surrounding where she should be deployed. But one thing is for sure Dunn will give it her all wherever she plays on the field.
Crystal Dunn Parents, Vincent, And Rhonda Dunn
Crystal Dunn’s parents, Vincent and Rhonda Dunn, do not come from a sporty background. The couple raised their two kids in Rockville Centre.
Unlike some of her teammates in her USWNT squad, Crystal was raised in a household where she and her brother were the ones who kickstarted the athletic route.
Crystal was three when her family shifted to Rockville from Queens. In an interview, Crystal said if it was any other town, she might not have even played soccer. At Rockville, Crystal joined Darcy Field, previously known as Rockville Centre Soccer Club.
Her father, Vincent Dunn, graduated from the University at Buffalo with a Juris Doctor degree in 1989. After graduation, Vincent worked as a partner at Chadbourne & Parke LLP for 26 years.
He only left his job at Chadbourne in 2016 and later joined Norton Rose Fulbright as a Co-Partner In Charge of the New York Office. Her mother, Rhonda Dunn, keeps a low profile and keeps herself away from social media.
They Have Supported Their Daugther Through The Failures
In an interview with the FIFA website in 2019, Rhonda Dunn talked about when Crystal didn’t make it to the 23-player squad for the FIFA World Cup 2015.
It was an emotional and stressful period for Crystal, who worked hard to become part of the squad. But Vincent and Rhonda made sure to let their daughter know they would always be there for her.
Vincent would use words of affirmation every morning while talking to Crystal. Their positive attitude helped Crystal push her game and become an integral part of the USWNT squad.
And that ultimately led her to become World Cup Champion with the team in 2019. During their interview, the couple also talked about Crystal’s impact on girls in the African-American community.
Crystal Dunn Brother, Henry Dunn
Crystal Dunn was raised alongside her older brother, Henry Dunn, a former athlete.
Born on March 26, 1989, Henry is three years older than his little sister. A State University of New York graduate at Binghamton, Henry Dunn previously played minor-league baseball.
Cleveland Guardians were the team to select Henry in the 50th round of the 2010 MLB Draft. He was then sent to play in the Arizona League for the AZL Guardians.
A center fielder Henry played the 2010 and 2011 with AZL and later played for Mahoning Valley Scrappers and Lake County Captains. In his short baseball career, Henry played 73 games in total and had a .581 OPS.
Henry is available on Facebook, but nothing much is known about what he did after quitting baseball. He tied the knot with Gina Dunn on May 5, 2019, and the couple shares two kids, Noah and Aiden.
Their youngest son was born earlier this year on March 24, while their first son was born on July 16, 2020. Gina is available on Facebook and has shared a picture of her two cute boys.
