Fox was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is the son of Aaron Fox and Lorraine Harris-Fox. Fox has one brother, Quentin.

Fox’s mother, Lorraine, felt a bump in her chest one day. After observing the lump for a week, she had it checked out. A biopsy confirmed it was malignant or cancerous.

Later, his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer somewhere in March 2000. A few years earlier, her sister had died from breast cancer, devising a 5-year-old son.

She and her husband adopted her nephew, and when she found out she had cancer, their son, De’Aaron Fox, was 2 years old.

“My first primary thoughts when I was diagnosed was that I have to do everything I can to combat this because my relative has already lost one mom from this fight,’ ” Harris-Fox said.

“The early feeling was alarm when you get the call from your doctor verifying that you have breast cancer.

Later, it was fear and devastation, and then a moment of minutes after that was when I initiated the method of what do I do next. Cause I gotta combat so I can be here for these two boys who will lose everything if I lose the battle.”

Fox’s mother endured surgery, four cycles of chemotherapy every three weeks, and 40 rounds of x-rays. Routine maintenance, blood work, and scans served the initial six-month treatment.
