Edward Alan Winelandd Jr. was born on June 26, 1984, in Houston, Texas, United States. He is a resident of Westville, Indiana, United States.

Early Career

Wineland’s mixed martial arts career started in regional organizations in his native Midwestern United States.

Before signing for the reputed, defunct mixed martial arts promotion World Extreme Cagefighting, Eddie had already competed in 15 professional fights.

World Extreme Cagefighting 

At the event WEC 20 of World Extreme Cagefighting, Wineland defeated Antonio Banuelos, thanks to a first-round TKO.

This made Eddie the inaugural WEC bantamweight champion, a title he lost in his first effort at defending it against Chase Beebe at WEC 26.

Beebe won by unanimous decision. At WEC 40, on April 5, 2009, Rani Yahya defeated Wineland with a first-round submission.

That same year, on October 10, Wineland won by unanimous decision against Manny Tapia at WEC 43.

Similarly, he won a win against George Roop on January 10 the next year at WEC 46.

At WEC 49, on June 20, 2010, Wineland’s scheduled opponent Charlie Valencia was forced off the card due to an injury.

So, he had to face another opponent Will Campuzano, who he defeated with a second-round TKO. This win helped Eddie achieve the “Knockout of the Night” honors.

Further, that same year on November 11, Wineland was forced out of his expected fight at WEC 52 with Damacio Page due to a shoulder injury.

Wineland then attained his second straight “Knockout of the Night” honor on December 16 at WEC 53, thanks to a slam in the first round, which helped him knock out his opponent.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC)

On October 28, 2010, World Extreme Cagefighting merged with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, and all the WEC fighters were transferred to UFC.

Wineland made his UFC debut against Urijah Faber on March 19, 2011, at UFC 128; he lost the fight unanimously.

He then lost his fight to Joseph Benavidez at UFC on Versus 5 on August 14, 2011, by unanimous decision with the scores 30-27, 30-27, and 30-27)

At UFC on Fox 2 on January 28, 2012, Wineland’s expected opponent Demetrious Johnson was pulled out from the fight, and he would compete in the UFC’S inaugural Flyweight tournament in March.

Afterward, Wineland pulled out from the event himself due to an injury.

Further, Eddie won his bout against Scott Jorgensen at UFC on F.X. 3 on June 8, 2012, with the help of a second-round K.O.

It was the first time Jorgensen had lost by a knockout, and the fight earned both the fighters Fight of the Night honors.

Further, Eddie won against Brad Picket on December 29 at UFC 155 via a split decision.

On June 15, 2013, his next card at UFC 161 was canceled when his opponent,  Renan Barão, had to pull out of a fight due to a foot injury.

Wineland then returned after a year away from the Octagon against Bryan Caraway, on July 25, 2015, at UFC on Fox 16, losing the fight through a unanimous decision.

2020-2021 fights

Wineland’s scheduled fight against Marlon Vera, expected to occur at UFC on ESPN on March 28, 2020, was eventually postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He then lost to Sean O’Malley on June 6, at UFC 250, through a first-round knockout.

Further, on February 20, 2021, Eddie faced John Casteñeda at UFC Fight Night 186. Sadly, even this time, he lost the fight via TKO (punches).
