Elizabeth Beisel was born in South Kingstown, Rhode Island, the United States. Her parents are Ted Beisel and Joan Beisel.

The gold medalist’s mother is also a former swimmer who swam at the University of Rhode Island. Joan was exceptional during her time.

International Career

Early Career And First Bronze Medal

The swimmer started competing in international events and championships at just fourteen years old. Moreover, the very first championship she participated in was the 2007 World Championships. 

The Olympian landed in the 12th position at the semifinals of the 200-meter backstroke competition. Thereafter, she competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics. 

During the Olympic trials, she came second at the 400-meter individual medley and the 200-meter backstroke.

In the Summer Olympics held in Beijing, China, Elizabeth was the youngest swimmer on the U.S. Olympic swim team.

After earning the third spot in 2009, Beisel entered the 2010 National Championships. She secured fourth place in the 400-meter individual medley while finished at first in the 200-meter backstroke.

Thereafter, Elizabeth won her first two gold medals at the 2010 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships. She came in the first position at the 400-meter individual medley and the 200-meter backstroke.
