Campbell’s current contract

Recently, in March 2021, Matt Campbell extended his contract with Iowa State which will make him more than $4 million by the end of it. According to the sources, he will be making $3 million annually and it even includes staff salary enhancements.

Additionally, this contract will last till December 2028 and he is to owe $4 million to Iowa State if he leaves the contract before the expiry date. Not to mention, this contract also flexes impressive performance-based incentives.

Coming at the present deal, Detroit Lions present a massive contract for long years and it clearly expresses their likings for the coach. In fact, many have shown interest to Campbell to date.

As a matter of fact, most of the coaches’ contracts come for five years or a little over, however, they were ready to go for eight long years with Campbell.

So why didn’t Matt Campbell join the Lions?

As simple as he kept the reason, Matt Campbell stated that he wished to remain at the collegiate level with the Cyclones. Even with ups and downs, Campbell stands 35-28 at Iowa State today.

Indeed, Campbell made it clear, he is just with Iowa State now.

What’s with Matt Campbell and Dan Campbell?

Many stated that the Detroit Lions hired Dan Campbell for the position of head coach filling Matt’s Campbell. Apart from it, it was reported that he asked his agent to make others feel that he was Matt Campbell.

Well, it’s true, and here is how he had it.

“Just in regards to the head coach search, how I ended up here, one of the things would be that I told my agent, Rick Smith, I said make sure that they think I’m Matt Campbell, so I think that’s how this has really worked out great for me. So now that I’m in the seat, I am Dan Campbell. But I do know this, you can’t go wrong with a Campbell.” -Dan Campbell

At present, Dan Campbell is going quite awesome with his works alongside new general manager Brad Holmes.
