Early Days of Jeremy Jeffress 

On September 21, 1987, Jeffress was born under Virgo’s sun’s sign in South Boston, Virginia. The star athlete, however, has not revealed his parent’s name to date.

Apparently, it is known that he has a sibling named Racquel Jeffress. Furthermore, he is of African-American ethnicity.

A Step into MLB

Following his high school graduation, Jeffress is reported to get selected by the Milwaukee Brewers.

 Milwaukee Brewers

However, Jeremy Jeffress didn’t start in the MLB right after, as he first played for the Arizona Brewers.

During his foremost season, Baseball American named Jeffress the second-best prospect in the Arizona League.

Likewise, the next year as well, Jeffress has named the fourth-best prospect with the best fastball pitch.

In the meantime, he was also on the restricted list of the Brevard County Manatees’ roster. Therewith, he was assigned to the Huntsville Stars. 

In 2010, Jeremy pitched at four different levels in the Milwaukee system. Initially, he commenced the season through the Class A affiliate, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, followed by Class A-Advanced Brevard County. 

Similarly, he again moved to the Huntsville Stars, and in total, he had made 10 Major League appearances for the Brewers.

After years of normal play, Jeremy finally made his major league debut on September 1, 2010, at Cincinnati. 

Altogether, his debut game had a pitch in the scoreless inning. Afterward, Jeremy pitched the rest of the season in the Arizona Fall League, where he made a 3.09 ERA in 10 relief appearances.

Kansas City Royals

The Brewers traded Jeffress to the Kansas City Royals on December 18, 2010. Apparently, he was traded alongside Alcides Escobar, Lorenzo Cain, and Jake Odorizzi for Zack Greinke and Yuniesky Betancourt.

At first, Jeffress featured in both Omaha and NW Arkansas, followed by the Surprise Saguaros in the Arizona Fall League.

For his first season with the Royals, he had 13 relief appearances, with his first victory on April 5 against the Chicago White Sox.

Toronto Blue Jays

With just a season and a bit more, the Royals traded Jeffress to Toronto Blue Jays in return for the cash considerations. Therefore, he earned his foremost win for the team on September 14.

Before the win, Jeffress also had featured in the Triple-A Buffalo Bison and the Class A Dunedin Blue Jays. Later, in the Buffalo Bisons, Jeremy had posted seven saves in 25 games with a 1.65 ERA. 

All in all, Before his trade to another team, he also made his appearance in the winter ball at the Dominican Republic.

Milwaukee Brewers

When Jeffress was elected as a free agent on April 16, 2014, he signed a minor league contract with his former team, Brewers.

In the beginning, he played with the Triple-A Nashville Sounds, as he maintained a 1.51 ERA and five saves in 30 relief appearances.

Consequently, he returned to the Brewers and recorded 1.88 ERA in 29 games, making him a stellar setup-man to closer Francisco Rodriguez.

At the same time, Jeffress posted his career-high wins of five games in 2015, with career-high innings (68.0) and strikeouts (67).

By the end of the year, Jeffress claimed the opportunity to feature beside Will Smith as a stellar setup-man. However, they couldn’t team up due to Smith’s injury.

However, Jeffress closed the season as Brewers Unsung Hero, voted by the Milwaukee Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America.

Texas Rangers

On August 1, 2016, after his trade to the Texas Rangers, Jeremy recorded 59 relief appearances with Texas and Milwaukee.

In the bargain, this season came as a low point in his career as he struggled with his WHIP figures. The next year, he posted a 5.31 ERA in 39 relief appearances. 

The Brewers 

Alongside Texas, he was then traded to the Brewers again in exchange for a right-handed pitcher, Tayler Scott. Altogether, Jeremy played 22 games for the team and also made his first MLB start.

Moreover, Jeffress got his first All-Star team as a replacement for Sean Doolittle. Following it, Jeffress had career-high 73 relief appearances with a 1.29 ERA and 15 saves.

Later, he served quite a long time on the injured list in 2019, which missed out on most of his games. 

Chicago Cubs

On  January 28, 2020, Jeremy Jeffress entered the Chicago Cubs with a one-year contract deal. Overall, the contract was worth $850,000, with an additional $200,000 based on games pitched.

Epilepsy

Furthermore, his foremost seizure was at the early age of 15, when he had a head injury. After that, he didn’t have any symptoms and was diagnosed for six years in total. Later, his first one came during the offseason in 2008 in Phoenix.

After years of struggle, he took an MRI in 2014 when they figured out it was juvenile myoclonic epilepsy. After five years of diagnosis, they concluded him to have those seizures due to insomnia, anxiety, and muscle twitching. 

“I have a lot of anxiety each and every day. Every day I wake up, I’ve got so much. I have a hard time waking up. Sometimes it’s hard to go to sleep. Most of the time, I’m by myself; I’m scared and nervous. But I’m doing things to make sure I’m well taken care of.”

2016 Arrest 

On August 26, 2016, before the match against the Indians, Jeffress was arrested by the police at 2:24 a.m.

According to the source, the athlete was driving in the 2500 block of Maple Avenue when he made a lane change without a signal.

Therefore, as the police caught him, they concluded him to be driving while intoxicated. TO illustrate, Jeremy had the smell of alcohol on his breath and glassy eyes with slurry speech.

Altogether, with the field sobriety test, they found out that Jeffress had a .115 estimated blood alcohol level. 

As for the further test, Jeffress refused to have a blood and urine test. However, he later pleaded guilty to the situation and was sentenced to three days in jail.

Jeremy Jeffress is a married man with a family of three. Well, his wife is Denise Daniels, who is a Business Development Specialist at Mercedes-Benz of Scottdale.
