Jesse Marsch | Early Life

Initiating with the basics, Jesse was born on November 8, 1973, in Racine, Wisconsin. He was born to his father, Larry Marsch, and his mother, whose name is still not revealed on the internet.

Marsch was not only the kid in the family. The star grows up alongside his sister Sara Marsch and two other siblings.

Well, nothing precisely has been detailed on the information about his childhood, early life, and parents.

But yes, as a kid, Jesse never dreamed of being a coach to a national team or any other team. He was not so genuine and thoughtful about his future.

To add on, when Jesse turned fifteen, he was on tour with an American regional side at a youth tournament in the U.K. Actually, they went to Anfield to watch Liverpool.

After watching John Barnes and Peter Beardsley play, what made him do that, but he just went down the pitch took some Arsenal turf as a memoir, pondering on the fact whether he will ever again have a chance to be there or not.

High School and College Career

Jesse attended Racin Case High School and accomplished his high school career as a standout athlete. 

He then went on attending Princeton University and also earned All-American honors in 1995 after notching 16 goals as a midfielder and forward.

His collegiate career coach was Bob Bradley, who also guided him overall in the MLS draft in 1996. He later served as an assistant at DC United.

Professional Career

DC United, a professional soccer club based in Washington, DC, hired him for the 1996 MLS college draft in the third round. For the next two seasons, he played for DC, appearing in a total of 15 games.

Furthermore, when Bob was assigned to lead the Chicago Fire expansion, he obtained Jesse too. 

Jesse was hired in place of A.J. Wood and a sound round pick-up in the 1998 college draft. While performing regularly for the Chicago Fire, he quite soon became a pillar of the troop there.

Well, Jesse also aided his team Fire to the 1998 MLS Cup, winning over three league championships in three seasons.

Not only that, but he also won the U.S Open Cup, a knockout cup competition in men’s soccer, three times in 1998, 2000, and 2003. He also became the club’s all-time leader in regular-season games.

After his outstanding sportsmanship with the Fires, Jesse was traded to Chivas USA, where Bob was officially coaching in 2005.

After spending a few seasons with the Chivas, he declared his retirement and planned to enter coaching on February 5, 2010.

International Career

Jesse earned two caps with the United States national team. His first cap was earned as a relief in the World Cup qualifier tie with Trinidad and Tobago in 2001. The other win was in a 2007 friendly match against China.

Early Career

Initially, Jesse started as an assistant to his former college and club coach, Bob Bradley, and worked with the United States men’s national team. 

He served as an assistant until Bob got expelled in July 2011. Jesse took the head coach of Major League Soccer expansion franchise Montreal Impact in August 2011.

They occupied the 12th spot at the end of the 2012 MLS season.

However, Jesse left the club in November 2012, which resulted from the philosophical differences between the club members, team management authority, and him. However, it was a decent split.

New York Red Bulls

Okay, Jesse later took the New York Red Bulls coaching job in January 2015, substituting Mike Petke.

Jesse guided his troop to the MLS Supporter’s Shield in his first season with the Red Bulls, an annual award given to the MLS team for the best regular season.

The Bulls also made their way to 18 league victories and 60 points. Also, Jesse was titled as the MLS coach of the year. He had a good regime with the Bulls, which led him to a contract extension.

There were news-making rounds. Jesse was all trying to take over Oscar Garcia’s position as an FC Red Bull Salzburg manager. However, both the clubs claimed the reports were wrong.

His tenure with the New York Red Bulls ended in July 2018 as one of the finest coaches. Chris Armas took his spot.

RB Leipzig

Next to RB Leipzig head coach Ralf Rangnick for the 2018–19 season, Jesse’s again dropped down to the assistant level. He was there up for the two-year deal.

Similarly, Marsch served as an assistant for one year leading his team to the group stage of the UEFA Europa League, where the team made it to third place and eventually backed out of the competition.

Well, everyone remained in awe of the coaching spirit that he showcases on the ground. He really accomplished well in creating a positive mentality, aura, and surroundings. There was positivity between their identification and the way they coordinated with each other.

His Napoli Draw Comment

Back in October 2019, Jesse Marsch did warn Napoli that his side would not be playing for a draw but will stand as the protagonist. As the boss of Red Bull Salzburg, he cleared that his team was ready to face Napoli.

Red Bull Salzburg

Red Bull Salzburg is regarded as the sister company to RB Leipzig. And Jesse joined there to replace Marco Rose and became the club’s head coach on June 6, 2019. He also headed his team to the doubles.

During his tenure with the team, one of his videos from the team talk went viral when he was trying to talk in the German language. Right then, Jesse had German speech with American-English filler.

After the former Leipzig manager left the team to transfer to Bayern Munich, they introduced Jesse as their new manager. 

Before Jesse was in the team, Eintracht Frankfurt had hinted that he might be chosen for the post. Later, RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff announced his entry through a video and thus, signed a two-year deal until 2023, worth €2 million ($2.4 million). 

Following it, Jesse Marsch rejected the job offer from Premier League for the Tottenham Hotspur managerial job. To be a part of Leipzig, he rejected both the job offers from Tottenham Hotspur and Eintracht Frankfurt.

As a matter of fact, genuine coach Jesse Marsch is a married man. He is happily married to his beautiful wife,  Kim Marsch, and blessed with three children: Maddux Marsch, Lennon Ramon Marsch, and Emerson Marsch.

With his wife and three kids, aged five, nine, and twelve, Jesse visited 32 different countries in six months. They stayed there in hostels, motels, and on floors rather than moving from hotel to hotel.

According to  Jesse, he wanted to embrace every culture and learn something from every place and its people. Learning and understanding humanity was something that was food to his soul.

Besides that, he always enjoyed coaching young players aged 15 or 16 rather than coaching the latter-aged player. It was all about the level of understanding that he tried to develop in them.

Moreover, to bring it on, Jesse is also a UEFA certified coach. He took up the UEFA coaching course through the Scottish FA at the University of Stirling and at Hampden Park in Glasgow.

It was his desire and ambition that made him travel between New York and Scotland. And by now, he must have already acquired his UEFA coaching badges.

It is official, Brenden Aaronson is set to join Red Bull Salzburg and has arrived safely in his new home, Austria. As documented on RB Salzburg’s official club website, the head coach, Jesse Marsch, personally went and greeted the lad.

Why wouldn’t he? Aaronson, the Philadelphia Union‘s prodigy, transferred with a big sum which was finalized back in October.

During the interview, the 20-year-old talks about his impression of the club and city; and how Marsch guided him through the training center and home stadium.
