Having worked as a sales assistant, her reporting stint came in 2005 as a sports staff writer at The Daily Orange.

Then, over the next few years, she surfed and honed her sports writing skills while completing her master’s in Newspaper & Online Journalism from Syracuse University.

Her hard work won NABJ’s Emerging Journalist of the Year award in 2011. From 2012 to 2017, she was the New York Jets beat writer for the Newsday Media Group.

Then, The Washington Post hired her as the beat writer for the NFL’s Washington Redskins (2017-18) before Yahoo called her, followed by ESPN.

Martin is the daughter of Camille Martin and her late husband, Compton Martin. The ESPN NFL reporter is the eldest of two children; she has a younger brother.

Her father and mother come from a black ethnic background. On her Instagram, Kimberly occasionally shares pictures of her parents.

Kim’s father, Compton, died on February 12, 2012, due to cancer.

Born on January 18, 1951, he was 61 years old at the time of death. Even now, Martin regularly wishes a posthumous birthday to her dad.

Kimberly’s mother, Camille’s birthday falls on December 14. She posts pictures with her mom on Mother’s Day- the latter is in her late 60s.

The former beat writer is married and lives with her husband, Jeffery Roberts. Her beau is a lead reporter, managing producer, and associate director at NJ Advance Media (2019- present).

They married on July 3, 2014, in Arverne, NY City. The duo have no kids but are parents to a dog, two bunnies, and a turtle.
