Mladenovac’s Controversial French Open Loss

Back in September 2020, Kristina lost after the umpire’s controversial call that turned the momentum of her French Open clash with Laura Siegemund.

The French tennis player, who was leading 5-1, wasn’t pleased about a no-call on a double bounce that helped her opponent avoid ceding in the first set.

That cost Mladenovac as umpire Eva Asderaki didn’t spot the extra bounce that came during a 10-stroke exchange, and eventually, the match ended 7-5, 6-3.

Speaking with the media, she said, “I think the chair umpire was the only person not to have seen it. Mistakes are human, but I don’t see how the umpire can miss that. She didn’t see a double bounce. Unfortunately, she will continue at Roland Garros, and I won’t continue at Roland Garros.”
